Chris nailed it with this part at the end. Games really are just gambling sims and toys to most people. Games as art is a nice concept, but the industry will always see games as a product. Horses threatened the money in a very prudish moment, and it had to suffer for it.

Media illiteracy, especially when it comes to gaming, is really grating. We are going to forever cripple the ambitions of deliberately provocative games unless we support audacious developers. There is no reason that gaming has to be viewed as an infantile medium.
