This thread is exactly right. It will not be sufficient to beat Trump at the ballot box or wait for him to die, all the craven elites who decided to kowtow when democracy and decency were on the line need to be publicly disgraced and treated as pariahs. (My confidence in that happening is very low.)
They believe that Trump will use the formal powers of the government and whatever informal powers he may have to extract costs from them if they do not play ball and they equally believe that the anti-Trump coalition will not extract these costs.

This is a great point about subtle language manipulation and framing by the media.
I object on aesthetic and maybe quasi-moral grounds to language like “devout” and “deeply religious” in this context. If his fanaticism adhered to a different faith, he’d get “fanatic,” “extremist,” “zealot” etc. Perverting the Cross to commit murder exempts you from “devout”
