I don’t know that I agree with this assessment of the gulf between academia and industry, but I recognize faults in both.

So instead I’m going to ask, what would it mean for academia to be a “productive, open-minded partner”? What does the success case look like (for game designers)?
I admit that at one point I thought academia would come around to appreciating the work of game designers. But after many interactions, it is obvious that most institutions are too captured by their sponsor discipline's doctrines & grinding bureaucracies to ever be a productive, open-minded partner.
