To make real climate progress, we need a green economic populism that brings immediate, material benefits to the working class—tackling both carbon and the cost-of-living crisis. We can start local rn.

Opinion | Biden Left Us With a ‘Prius Economy.’ It’s Time for Something Different.
Climate impacts are fueling the cost-of-living crisis, especially for the poor and working class.

Why did Biden's climate policies fail to cement EVs in US life? Only well-off ppl have been buying lots of new cars—IRA leaned into that.

The EV subsidies for expensive cars had income caps—but were de facto most relevant for buyers earning just under the limit. Not much help for working class.

$38B for gestapo jails to divide and conquer us, instead of $38 billion for green social housing to bring us together and make us safer.
Breaking news: ICE expects to spend $38.3 billion on its plan to acquire warehouses across the U.S. and retrofit them into immigrant detention centers that can hold tens of thousands of people, according to agency documents.

Holy moly: Seattle’s millionaire tax, passed last year, is expected to bring in $115 million in its 1st year, way more than the $50 million anticipated.

The funds will go to the city’s new social housing developer publicola.com/2026/02/11/t...

(Is NY Gov Hochul paying attention?)
Seattle’s millionaire tax is a huge success. Here is how grassroots groups beat big money and are now raising tons of money for mixed income, rent stabilized housing. (We call it “social housing.”)

New York's private housing is infrastructure. It's a collectively managed good that's a platform for the whole economy.

Finally, under Zohran, we have the chance to manage this infrastructure properly—fix up the homes, and stop landlords' speculative profiteering off the backs of tenants.

It is worth noting that Rehmet (see rest of thread) appears to have run as pro union, working class, populist - calling out the rich - and naming (1) racial gerrmanderying (2) book bans (3) religion in schools (4) protecting kids' privacy.
May this be the early signs of Texas waking to the horrors of this regime. May this also be yet another indicator to Democrats: voters want fighters, not appeasers. Rehmet ran on working class fighter bonafides.
Wow, buckle up.

The early vote just came in Tarrant County, and Democrat Taylor Rehmet is up 56% to 44% in the special election for a Texas state Senate seat.

This is a seat that went for Trump by 17%. This would be a huge upset.

This is already 45K votes.

The revolt of imprisoned migrants against an American death squad killing an American citizen is what decolonial politics look like. This is where hope shines.

Meanwhile, liberals told us that the genocide wasn’t real, until the violence boomeranged home.

I know who to trust for the battles ahead.
