Footnote 4 notwithstanding, we all have a patriotic duty to keep calling it a Kavanaugh stop until the government actually stops doing it.
Kavanaugh has spent months watching masked street thugs brutalize Latinos on TV for the crime of being Hispanic in America, watching the entire Latino population of America turning on his party, and realizing it was all directly attributable to him. I bet he’s wanted to melt into the floor.
Interesting that Justice Kavanaugh decided he had to add footnote 4 to his concurrence, which addresses the "State’s underlying objections to the activities of federal immigration officers when they make immigration stops."

A lovely thing about the “heritage American” nonsense is that it has its own defeat baked in from the outset. A year ago, when they thought they were winning, the term was “legacy American,” and it included just enough non-white Americans for majority “non-Legacy” America to not be inevitable
The number of Americans whose ancestors all arrived pre-1800, or whatever the cutoff for "heritage American" is supposed to be, would be a vanishingly tiny number because even the WASP-est of Old Stock WASPs haven't kept up that level of total genetic isolation over the centuries.

I nearly blocked the first account that I saw sharing this, because I just assumed it had to be one of those bullshit misinformation accounts that makes fake Trump posts. Utterly deranged.
this is one of the most psychotic things Trump has ever posted

A common belief among guys like this is that when people respond negatively to them, it's because those people can't handle the force of their arguments. When in fact it's that those people view them as unlikable assholes. Hence fidgeting read as uncomfortable agreement instead of "god what a jerk."
So it turns out learning the core knowledge of Western Civilization doesn't stop you being unfathomably stupid

And to issue the order after work hours and when the underlying case is on appeal (divesting jurisdiction) and to falsely claim it was sua sponte?

That is corrupt. I don’t throw that around lightly but I honestly cannot think of a better word for a lawyer who does that.

It's the Lost Cause's long march through the institutions, all the way down. They hate this country just like their secesh forebears did; though at least an Alexander Stephens type was honest about it and trashed the Founding for being too egalitarian, instead of mendaciously claiming their mantle

The best moment in the History of the Word Caucasian came in a series of Supreme Court cases during the immigration panic of the 1920s.

The Naturalization Act of 1790 said that only "white" people could be naturalized as American citizens, but that only raised questions about what counted as white?
It stems from a literal belief that white peoples descended from the Caucasus mountains after Noah’s ark

The classes that I took on ethical theories as an undergrad contributed more to my skills as a lawyer than most of the classes that I took in law school for basically this reason.
This is actually a good example of why the customer model is wrong.

I wouldn't have chosen poetry writing, but UNC made me take a class. And it absolutely made me become a much better writer, with an eye to concision and an ear now trained to the rhythm of words. I'm a better historian as a result.

The Trump administration has made me a flagrant moralist in a way that has led me to tossing aside years of snark, and you know, I'm good with that. It's time to talk about what being a good person means; about why it's good to signal virtue, why it's good to press for values, not spectacle.
we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

Every naturalized citizen of this country is more American than any Trump voter could ever dream of being.
If you've ever been to a naturalization ceremony, you know they're filled with people whose palpable love of this country is twenty times stronger than the pinched "patriotism" of any native-born MAGA chud.

Just unspeakable assholery.

His message directly challenges Elon Musk and MAGA leaders who frame Christian empathy as weakness.

It’s true. We shouldn’t pretend that. Trumpist culture is not the same as American culture and not equal. Trumpist culture is proudly ignorant, defiantly against America’s founding values and subsequently developed values, venomously bigoted, and generally despicable.
Fox News' Will Cain: "I’m sure there are very honorable law-abiding upstanding citizens and contributors from the Somali community here in the United States, BUT..."

He goes on to say "we aren’t going to pretend here that all cultures are of equal value or the same."

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
