Now more than ever, it is important to support Queer and Trans people. In this practice brief, we (@drantonioduran.bsky.social
@drqhutchings.bsky.social) imagine the ways we can address the needs of Queer and Trans men of color, specifically in men of color programs.

Queering Men of Color Programs: Interventions to Address the Needs of Queer and Trans Men of Color

In higher education, men of color (MoC) initiatives have gained prominence as programmatic interventions designed to support the persistence of MoC. Although a promising practice, scholars and practitioners have criticized MoC initiatives for reproducing narrow conceptualizations of who is most affected by gendered, racial, and culturally mediated systems. That is, these initiatives have been the subject of critiques that they frequently reproduce heterosexism and trans oppression, erasing the needs of queer and trans MoC. This practice brief addresses this issue by attending to how MoC programs can integrate queer and trans MoC, providing recommendations like adjusting facilitator recruitment and participant selection.
Keywords: men of color programs, Black men’s initiatives, queer and trans men of color, men and masculinities

I'll be updating next week's current-state-of-state-higher-ed-policy slides.

Left is an article about the VA senate dems telling UVA their state funding will be in question if they agree to that odious compact. On the right is the key part of the senate letter.

www.cbs19news.com/news/state-s...
Screenshot from the top of the article. Title is "State Senate Democrats tell UVA to not consider education compact." Published today.

Main text reads "RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia could lose state funding if it signs onto an education compact it received from the federal government last week." Screenshot from the letter from VA dems which reads "Therefore, we call upon you to immediately cease all consideration of signing this compact.
Furthermore, we want to be explicitly clear: if the University of Virginia signs this compact, there will be significant consequences in future Virginia budget cycles. As the leadership of the Senate with responsibility for appropriations affecting higher education, we will work with our colleagues to ensure that the Commonwealth does not subsidize an institution that has ceded its independence to federal
political control."

University of Nebraska–Lincoln Proposes Cutting Ed Administration Programs

University leaders say they need to slash the budget. Education administration professors say it’ll sever a pipeline to education leadership roles. https://bit.ly/42D0qCw

Notably, the Chancellor of the U of Nebraska-Lincoln has an EdD in Educational Administration. By cutting the only higher ed doctoral program in the state, he would essentially eliminate the opportunity for students to obtain the degree that qualified him for his leadership position. Devastating.

When educators say that educational leadership preparation within a university is expendable, we are in a scary place. This is about my department, my university and is cause for alarm for educators everywhere. If they cut the only ed leadership PhD program in our state, whose will be next? (1/2)

I’ve been reporting on influencers for more than seven years now and today I had an academic decline to do an interview about them for the first time out of fear of government retaliation.

The First Amendment is clear: Government officials cannot use their power to censor free speech.
Gray graphic reading “This is beyond McCarthyism. Trump officials are repeatedly abusing their power to stop ideas they don’t like, deciding who can speak, write, and even joke.
The Trump administration's actions, paired with ABC's capitulation, represent a grave threat to our First Amendment freedoms” The quote is attributed to Christopher Anders, on ABC's decision to indefinitely suspend Jimmy Kimmel".

Someone asked if there was a place where I kept all my writings. There wasn’t. But now there is!!

I’m still thinking about what else I’ll do with it, but it’s a start!
