In the end, don't we all want the same thing?
To be with someone who makes us feel safe & loved?
Someone who is kind, has decent dagger skills, and bakes excellent cheesy bread?

Open yourself up to the universe.
Receive the strange signals it provides.
It may ask you to start rescuing cursed dolls from the antique shop, or to build an unstable catapult that launches balls of swords.
Be ready.

Not to chase misunderstood creatures from their land, but instead, their so-called king.

It’s called due process.

Everyone has a right to due process. Any *competent* attorney knows this. The levels, or strictures of due process may vary (especially between civil & criminal) but everyone has a right to due process.

“Lawyers are not spectators to the Constitution; we are its agents.”
So says WA AG Nick Brown and 20 other AGs in an open letter to the legal community regarding the Administration’s attack on our profession. Why this principle is the subject of debate chills me to the core.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

The judicial branch continues to do their thing.
BREAKING: Federal judge issues a nationwide preliminary injunction against the medical provider funding prohibitions in Trump's EO seeking to restrict gender-affirming medical care for those under 19 and the "gender ideology" funding restriction in his Jan. 20 "sex"-defining EO.

BINGO.
Trump's repeated attacks on "DEI," "wokeness," and the trans community have one clear purpose:

If we are angry at each other, we won't look up to see how big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains.

I will use every tool at my disposal to protect this country from Trump. I will litigate to defend voting rights until there are no cases left to bring. I will speak out against authoritarianism until my last breath.

I will not back down. I will not bow or scrape. I will never obey.

And so it goes. Busy busy federal courts.
Updated story: the judge convened a videoconference hearing and granted the order within an hour of the filing - during the Super Bowl. Not sure I have ever heard of a court moving that fast.
Venezuelan Migrants Ask Court to Block U.S. from Sending Them to Guantánamo

The three men, who are detained in New Mexico, say they “fit the profile” of the type of migrants the Trump administration has started sending to the Navy base.

Note that the scope of criminal investigations of private companies will target accessibility programs. Apparently Pam Bondi hasn’t heard of the ADA.
Breaking from me and @mjsdc.bsky.social : Newly installed AG Pam Bondi sent out more than a dozen memos in a 15 minute period on Wednesday. One of them told staffers to come up with "proposals for criminal investigations" of large companies that have DEIA initiatives. slate.com/news-and-pol...

I just came off the floor after speaking for an hour. I refuse to let Republicans confirm Russ Vought the easy way, so we're holding the floor through the night for 30 straight hours.

Vought has shown he'll ignore the law & constitution. I'll be voting NO tomorrow.
