Excited to announce that I'll be moving to the Univ of California Irvine @ucirvine.bsky.social next Spring!🌴

Happily, this is not goodbye to Japan as I'll continue my lab @RIKEN_CBS for some time.

Help spread the word: the new UCI lab will be hiring, DM or email ([email protected]) if interested!

Delighted to share our latest review in Nature Reviews Neuroscience!
We examine the growing evidence that vascular dysfunction plays a key role in cognitive decline in ageing and dementia, and argue that preserving/restoring CBF should be central to future therapies.

Brainwide blood volume reflects opposing neural populations

Brainwide fluctuations in blood volume arise from two populations with opposite relation to brain state and distinct relationships to blood supply

Loss-of-function (IP3R2-KO) and gain-of-function (Astro-GqDREADD by Bonder et al. and Astro-OptoAlpha1AR by Ozawa et al. www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/24...) studies failed to show a major causal link between GPCR-induced Ca²⁺ and hyperemia. Maybe it’s not Ca²⁺; maybe astrocytic cAMP is the real driver.
