i took a bunch of middle-evolution Pokemon that had never been nominated for any other brackets and threw them in one, randomized seeds, it's the AWKWARD MIDDLE EVOLUTION BRACKET, in the end we landed on

1. Loudred
2. Pignite
3. Quaxwell

To be clear, this is just as bad as the Amazon AI dub thing. Not as much to meme about, but definitely just as bad. Remember when YouTube switched over to AI closed captions, removed the options for creators to provide their own, and then they all got immediately worse forever? This is like that.
After publishing this article, I've heard from many that CR seems to be using AI to produce dub CCs. Now, thanks to a slip-up CR had with episode 6 dub of The Banished Court Magician, we can say that with 100% certainty: Crunchyroll is using the AI service Ollang.com for its dub closed captions!

ok so i actually know somebody non-disabled who does this and i can tell you: if someone's determined to cheat the system, NOTHING is going to stop them. able-bodied cheaters have the energy to jump through all the hoops. making things harder only gatekeeps accommodations from people who need it.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

We live in a culture that is very taxonomic, that sees significance in naming things as distinct things that have a distinct meaning that can be elaborated in an encyclopedia, but it need not always be so. Words are secondary to communication. They're lived in, sometimes messily or haphazardly.

#worldbuilding Language that isn't intentionally controlled by a centralized authority is rarely so uniform. On the other hand, there are also a plethora of examples of language being controlled in such a way on the level of the state (me looking directly at France).

My favorite example in my own work is a place that is just called "the high shore" in its own language, yet whether or not it gets translated or simply called the untranslated native word varies. I love just "the black country" in England and like the multitude of names for Germany as examples.

When naming things for #worldbuilding I find it fun to play with subjectivism. Exonyms and endonyms, different groups calling things different things, plurality of spelling (consider: if literacy either isn't centralized or widespread, it is likely there are several different spellings in use).

I've not spoken about this much—both because it feels self-aggrandizing and isn't super relevant beyond the folks directly involved—but:

The Game Jam Waiver (*the* most accessible way to make games Union) was created + is maintained by marginalized people. I feel like this is a major piece of why.
Indie animation and game development is here to stay because it MUST be. Otherwise soon enough there won’t exist a sector of the industry willing to tell or support the stories already starting to be snuffed out.
Not great that a foreign state that regularly executes queer folks is now going to own the major AAA publisher that most consistently supported queer stories and characters.

If you can, please consider donating to their GoFundMe. The money is going to union members this holiday so they can buy groceries and pay rent while they fight for a fair contract.

If MiUSA means anything at all, it must mean good paying jobs for workers.
