Russians are usually v much a "shoes off inside" culture. "Slippers" (tapochki) is one of the words we specifically were taught along with all the other standard clothing vocab. And obviously Shane is Japanese-Canadian, so he'd likely be from a shoes-off inside household, too.

Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.
Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.
