Born deaf and blind, she's caught in Trump's anti-diversity crusade:

A program for deafblind children helped 3-year-old Annie Garner, born with poor vision and no ears, learn to communicate. The Trump admin cut the program's funding over diversity goals.

part of me is annoyed that I left the US due to conditions created by Stephen Miller immigration policies and a media industry clearly in crisis but I still feel like it was partly my fault, even though the border officer also felt bad for me today

Speaking as someone who just wrote a book on the Manhattan Project, I can assure you that refugee immigrants were the *entire* reason the US mastered the atom first. The most chilling part of writing my book was reading about them fleeing fascism … abroad. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/fleeing-on...

This is super crazy! There are so many reasons you might want to stay in a hotel in your hometown including renovations, medical procedures, and even staycations.
A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

And then the absolute idiocy of the American electorate went “I can’t remember that republicans are bad for more than a week, regardless of what they do”
This. Again January 6th should’ve been the end. No, the collective scum that is The GOP said nah let’s double down.
Or republican senators could have ended our national nightmare extremely easily with a single vote but didn’t have the courage

Did the United States really spend trillions of dollars on winning the Cold War, only for its president in 2025 take orders from a Russian dictator?

This is an earth-shattering humiliation for America of which its reputation may never recover.

In America, where irony is dead, a hotel chain uses a policy denying shelter to local people, for fear of accidentally housing homeless persons…

To deny a reservation to the author of a much-lauded book on how American economic unfairness forces working people into homelessness.

Starting your "research" with ChatGPT is like filling the foundations of your house with cotton candy or building your menu around radium.
I just read this line and I am going to SCREAM: "When used as a starting point rather than a substitute for research, [AI] can expand access to knowledge for authors without institutional resources."

EVERYONE KEEPS SAYING IT'S A GOOD STARTING POINT FOR "RESEARCH" BUT IT'S NOT??? IT LIES??

The President of the United States appears to be getting regular IV infusions, the public doesn’t know anything about it, & the DC media evidently doesn’t care.

We are months into the mystery of Trump’s hands, the White House is lying, & I’ve seen a grand total of one serious news story about it.
Trump looked pretty rough today -- note that both of his hands are discolored

Trump's obsession with the trade deficit is really remarkable. It's a non-issue that isn't remotely on the list of things voters ever gave a damn about, but he's so obsessed with "winning" that he thinks it matters to them.
Blah blah blah…

How come I have to take out a home equity loan to buy a pound of beef?

Someone should write an alternate historical novel where all of Stephen Miller's racist ideas for immigration restriction were in place back when his ancestors came here.

We wouldn't have harnessed the atom, but I guess the former Nazi scientists might've still gotten us to the moon.
🧵 An alternate historical novel was written by Philip Roth, THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA. Limited series by David Simon. Stephen Miller should watch it.

Great thread by Don on the person who gives us awful take after awful take.
New, from me: The NYT reporter who specializes in profiles of beleaguered right-wingers on campus went to New College...and found out that things were going ok!

So let me explain some pretty massive errors of omission: 🧵

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic.

It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today.

Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.

In New York, the maximum temporary disability payment is $170 per week.

Yet the NY max unemployment benefit is $869/week.

Needing more time to recover from heart surgery, it would be *far* better for me to lose my job for a month.

BTW, California's disability is $1620/week. Better is possible!
