It’s been fun while it lasted: “Purdue University will begin requiring that all of its undergraduate students demonstrate basic competency in artificial intelligence starting with freshmen who enter the university in 2026.”

Holy hell, talk about misreading your audience. I, parent of a 10 year old, cannot fathom a scenario in which UGC is something that makes me say "wow, I want to throw more money at the Walt Disney Corp."
"Iger said the deal also fulfills a longtime desire by Disney to put user-generated content on its Disney+ streaming platform. Disney initially plans to put select videos created on Sora onto Disney+ to increase engagement with users, especially younger ones." www.businessinsider.com/disney-bob-i...

I knew I liked this place for a reason. (Also because their Italian Beef is phenomenal)
Our archivist found this real, paid-for, pretty rad Mr. Beef ad in the April 2004 edition of The Onion.

See, I feel like this just confirms how the Lattimore translation sucks and is bad, if an AI can get there independently. #NerdHotTake
Zeroshot translation with LLM of Homer align more with Lattimore's translation, apparently a canonical one in the English speaking world? #chr2025 doi.org/10.63744/Xcj...

Ok, did we use Badger Badger Badger to respond to literally every situation though? *holds finger to ear* ah. Well, nevertheless
Sometimes people are like "aren't you worried about the kids and their nonsensical new brainrot memes"

But like, the thing is, I can still spot a member of my internet generation by how they respond to "badger badger badger badger"

Playing with language and rhythm is fun, it'll be fine!
One of the things we've enjoyed the most about the six-seven phenomenon is the way it comes with a gesture, which we've also seen represented in emoji form as:

It's like "The Gift of the Magi", only somehow more depressing and at a systemic level. I love it here*

Have you been to Drexel Town Square in Oak Creek? It wants to be the walkable, 15-minute city. The catch? You have to drive there.

Remember when the advent of the internet was going to SAVE social science researchers the arduous work of conducting in-person interviews? Good times, good times. #NotGoodTimes
This is terrifying.

Welp, this is both awful and totally expected re: Private Equity ownership behavior
🚨 EXPOSED: Parents are being threatened for recording their own kids’ hockey games. Private equity bought the rinks, banned filming, and now charges up to $50 a month to watch youth sports.

I am still mad that DLW wouldn't let me take the train to Anaheim this summer, but I see her point. "Oh freight has right of way, that's why passenger rail is so slow" WELL BUILD MORE TRACKS THEN. PREFERABLY OUT OF MELTED DOWN CARS.
OMG you cannot even take a train from Milwaukee to Nashville??? We are not a serious country.

In order, my reactions to this take:
1) Right on, Milwaukee obviously hates pedestrians
2) Well wait, it costs money to get these bitty plows to get sidewalks, DPW doesn't have unlimited budget
3) Oh that is a good point WAIT NO IT ISN'T THE STATE SHOULD GIVE MILWAUKEE BACK MORE MONEY FOR THIS
This is a small snow plow for sidewalks

If your city plows the roads but leaves sidewalks up to property owners, your city hates pedestrians.

Also, I fully support this. Back when I was a kid and my parents WEREN'T afraid to take my brother and me downtown, that place was a highlight of any such trip. Third Street Market Hall could never (sorry Milwaukee).
