Carceral control/confinement without due process. Expands the carceral state and ensures a indefinite, even lifetime confinement. Shame on the Dems who are supporting this.

The false idea that Democrats, in pushing to reverse Medicaid and ACA cuts, are advocating for an expansion of health care for undocumented immigrants is maybe the biggest health policy distortion since the supposed "death panels" in Obamacare.

Absolute all-timer sentence in today's @nytimes.com
"some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily execute civilians" says today's New York Times, continuing their long tradition of whitewashing fascism

Several scientists have received letters from the NIH director disinviting them from their positions on advisory councils that make final decisions on grant funding, I'm told.

In July, I reported that NIH staff were told to select members aligned with Trump administration priorities.

More kids died from flu last season than in any non-pandemic season since monitored began 20 years ago. Almost 90% were unvaccinated. Parents: talk to your doctor about getting your kids vaccinated. www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes...

This is the analysis that I was hoping to find - people receiving H1B's absolutely are a core part of the US healthcare system (in training and beyond). Especially in rural areas. The US does not train enough people to meet the need of the number of physicians our country needs.
mclem.org
Over 14,000 physicians currently practicing in the United States, concentrated in underserved Midwestern+Southern states, are currently working on H-1B visas.

This is the high-skill visa program, lifeblood for critical sectors, that the US Administration is sledgehammering.

This quote in that Mirror piece hit hard - Fairfield Dems (donors?) & their in with Lamont (who sees himself as one of them & more so than other parts of the state) killed this bill full stop.

The notion that a media outlet has to be nice to One Special Boy in order to exist is so fundamentally un-American it is almost beyond belief. The fact that ABC/Disney backed down is evidence that the corporate consolidation of the media is a huge problem.

BREAKING: President Donald Trump suggests FCC should revoke TV licenses for negative coverage on him.

Trump suggested the extraordinary actions as he defended FCC chairman Brendan Carr for pressuring ABC to pull comedian Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show off the airwaves.
Trump suggests FCC should consider revoking TV licenses over negative coverage of him
President Trump said overwhelming negative coverage about him by TV networks should be grounds for the FCC to revoke their broadcast licenses.

This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.

Opal is another great late 80s US band in this vein, along with ones like the Dream Syndicate. Again not particularly slowcore but closer to G500.
howellben.bsky.social
Not sure if I’d have called Galaxie 500 slowcore & interestingly I remember reading an interview w them where they felt one of the bands w closest affinity to them aesthetically was Spacemen 3.
howellben.bsky.social
I’ll second Codeine - kind of quintessential slowcore IMHO even more than other bands listed here

A top 50 US university yesterday fired an instructor, a department chair, and a dean because a course made some reference to transgender people without the brief official course description in the catalog saying “trigger warning: gender.”

In conclusion, those intolerant lefty kids, cancel culture.
