That the illegal destruction of USAID will kill more than *20 million people* in the next five years, & has ALREADY KILLED 600,000 in just one year, is a world-historical crime that Americans aren't being told about in the terms & with the repetition necessary for them to believe it.

Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

The women say they guided agents through the emergency, later raising concerns about medical protocols, weapons safety and accountability.

This is a very big deal. And Powell is a mensch. If democracy survives, he should get a presidential medal of freedom.

I am puzzled. It was my understanding that the Tush Push was too dangerous & unfair & unsportsmanlike & good teams should not be running it in the NFL playoffs. I guess when the Consensus Can Do No Wrong Golden Boy Quarterback runs it, it's just fine, then?

I genuinely don't understood how America took the emoluments clause -- the common-sense bar on a president using his powers to line his own pockets, a law children can understand -- and just said, nah, that doesn't apply for our Very Special Boy.
He’s turned the presidency into the world’s largest ATM machine.

Call your reps, call your senators.

Tell them they can shut this authoritarian government down or we'll throw them out of office and get some representatives who, you know, actually represent us.

at some point we're gonna have to have a real conversation about why we're still paying federal taxes to a regime that isn't using them to help anyone, but instead is using them to brutalize us

Come the fuck on. Five hours later and the headline is still about a disputed shooting. Just a basic lack of courage to acknowledge the obvious.
If the headline is "disputed shooting" rather than straightforwardly telling the public what happened this rewards the DHS for lying about these events

So, this should finally put to rest any delusions that there are decent people left in the US military who will stand up to illegal orders and protect democracy. The US military is now more likely to kill US citizens rather than help them. They are not our friends.

Controlling the judiciary and amassing wealth through corruption, you say?
Cilia Flores, who was captured by the U.S. with her husband, Venezuela’s longtime authoritarian president, Nicolás Maduro, is one of the country’s most powerful political figures. She helped consolidate his rule while controlling the judiciary and amassing wealth through corruption, experts say.

Among the many reasons you don’t kidnap a foreign head of state at gunpoint even if you have the capability, is that it sparks consequences you can neither control nor anticipate.

It's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad.

The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.

A small number of people whose extreme wealth exerts a political gravitational force that distorts the entire political system is bad, actually. It has been recognized as a threat to free liberal republican government since the first time it emerged in the Gilded Age.

Political reforms which would set us on a path towards a new system which don’t require a constitutional amendment:

- Proportional representation in the House with RCV in the Senate
- Expanding the Supreme Court and limiting its power
- Abolishing the filibuster
- Adding DC and PR as states
