EPA has ordered scientists in its Office of Water to immediately pause almost all research & stop publishing studies. Researchers were told that, unless scientific journals had already returned proofs, studies will be subject to an additional EPA review.

#AGU25 abstracts are due July 30! If you're doing any work on river temperature, we'd love to see you in New Orleans this December!! With: @andrasszeitz.bsky.social, @freshwaterflows.bsky.social, and #LorrayneMiralha
This image advertises the AGU session H126 River Water Temperature: Patterns, Processes, Impacts, and Management. We welcome contributions that deepen our understanding and offer actionable solutions for rivers under stress. The post also contains a QR code that, when scanned, takes you to the session website.

In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

Women are more likely to take on behind-the-scenes duties at work—extra tasks like onboarding or event planning—and it's hurting their careers. Here's how to say no.

The National Science Foundation budget proposal would be a devastating blow to American science. 240,000 fewer people would be involved in federally-funded science in fiscal year 2026, according to estimates in the document.

I just published Version 1.6. The main update is that the source data for CAMELS-AUS was upgraded to CAMELS-AUS v2. This means more basins (561 vs 222) and more recent streamflow data (2022 vs 2014).

Federal scientists will no longer update list of billion dollar weather weather disasters, NOAA said Thursday. List had been growing dramatically in recent years, a sign of both extreme weather & increasing development.

Report by Scott Dance: www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025...
NOAA will stop updating database tracking costliest weather disasters
The billion-dollar disaster tracker is on a growing list of datasets NOAA says that either scientists will no longer update or the administration will decommission entirely.

OMFG.

If there's any agency that is NOT top-heavy, it's NSF. Over 95% of the money flowing through NSF goes to awards.
