Gentle reminder that in 2020 it took …

2 days to count the votes in Michigan and Wisconsin

5 days to count the votes in Pennsylvania

2 weeks to call the winner in Georgia

Long voting lines are the “kid pays off classmates’ lunch debit via lemonade stand” — Not Actually an Unalloyed Good.
It's great that turnout here seems high, but a long line is also a sign of voter suppression because Ohio's GOP limited early voting to just 1 site per county regardless of population.

Franklin County's 1.3 million people (heavily Dem) & Vinton County's 12,000 people (heavily GOP) each get 1 site

Oh hey, in case you need some good news, the population decline of honeybees has actually reversed: fortune.com/2024/04/03/h...
Hobbyist beekeepers are buzzing after reversing America’s critical bee shortage in just 5 years
Tax breaks for beekeepers and the country’s need for pollinators help explain the busier hives—but climate change still threatens colony collapse.

This is some more incredible work by @propublica.org focusing on the dire consequences of a Trump win. This is the information voters are craving, not the latest poll results. Be sure to read & share. This stuff is important. It's also really good journalism.

The vast majority of election rumors are not based on fabricated evidence, but upon misinterpretations and mischaracterizations... when people view the events of th election through a lens of suspicion, or what we call the "rigged election" frame. The headline of this article makes a good example.

I really want to survive. It kept me closeted for so long. It's left me fearful of the upcoming election.

If you're debating whether to vote or who to vote for, I'd ask that you please vote for Harris…because I want to survive and thrive.

I think “hey assholes, Gus Walz is disabled” is missing the forest for the trees because it grants the premise that in other circumstances boys shouldn’t be crying for joy which is dumb misanthropic bullshit

Cue me trotting out the stats again: over 300,000 people work in US libraries. We are in every state. Coal mining, by contrast, employs less than 50,000 people across a few states. Politicians don't promote libraries because nobody gets rich off owning them but we are everywhere.

What I hear over and over from people who work in helping people get out of cults and extremist groups is that if your loved one/friend is in one, you can’t argue them out of it. You can’t save them. You can only make it clear that you’ll be there if they decide on their own to leave
One of the things I feel very hard from Barack Obama is the notion that everyone can be saved.

And—I want to make a distinction here—I do think that some people can change.

But they’ve got to save themselves.

What a shame this Walz VP pick has come so close to the State Fair crop art deadline (Aug 7) and drop off day (Aug 18)! I'm sure they would've created some bangers!

The key thing about the VP pick I think is not whether Walz will have any impact on the election or impact on a Harris Administration, but that the Harris team is listening to labor over management.
