Politicians & lobbying groups have been trying for years to prosecute the low-level dealers, plugs, and even just friends-who-use-together for homicide when someone dies from an overdose.

ChatGPT coached a kid to take drugs with it for months then gave medical advice that was so wrong it killed him
ChatGPT Gave Teen Advice to Get Higher on Drugs Until He Died
Detailed chat logs show how ChatGPT convinced a young man to take increasingly dangerous drug doses over an 18 month spiral.

I've seen refugee aid efforts defeat multi-year occupations by regional / national police forces who deployed 30x the amount of resources. Hell I've been part of that.

It is *very* possible.

ICE's budget has a limit.
Make them use it.

ICE's morale has a limit.
Make them lose it.

its not just that reactionaries *dont* read the western canon they venerate and lay claim to, its also that they *cant* read it and maintain the illusion that it affirms their supremacist ideology rather than refutes it

the propaganda value of "the classics" lies in mystique borne of ignorance

Every week, Nature publishes yet another breathless puff piece about some AI startup, based only unpublished claims from the company and interviewing only those who work there.

How can the leading scientific journal publish piece after piece that would make Kevin Roose blush?

I think it's that...

While it's gotten very business class popsci ("thinking fast vs thinking slow") I do repeatedly find a sharp distinction among many people between heuristic/rule based thinking (eg where they follow a code & respond to things) and overall-evaluative tradeoff thinking. Deontology vs consequentialism.

For any unfamiliar with the quality of journalism at Teen Vogue, it's well known for hard-hitting stories on "politically sensitive" topics including climate.

Then there's CBS: the only major network to increase climate coverage in the last few years. They just axed nearly their whole climate team.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

The stakes for producing sound and factual knowledge are high in a world filled with misinfo and literal pseudoscience funded and marshaled to stand in as legitimate knowledge by federal governments. But the way knowledge-making is gatekept counterproductively undercuts its relevance in that world.
