People have a right to speak. They don’t have a right for anyone else to have to listen. That’s why block lists etc exist. I don’t give people the benefit of assuming good faith in the same way I wouldn’t if someone followed me down the street demanding I debate them. I’d call the cops, to be honest

A quick reminder that when David Bowie died, the world quickly went bananas. If the power that is Dolly Parton also leaves this world, Earth will be entirely unprotected from cosmic evil.

AI is an almost textbook case of a technology that’s being misapplied. There are areas where it’s super useful - but they are often not the ones which people are trying to shoehorn it into. This often happens with new tech, and it’s striking with AI.
ianbetteridge.com
One of the problems with AI search is that necessarily you’re searching for something you don’t know. AI works best in scenarios where you know what good looks like, so you have that human safeguard built in, but it speeds up your work by giving you a starting point.

How many trillions of dollars have been invested into this technology so far?
Google search for "austria hungary in space"

Google excitedly tells you about the 1889 orbital flight, and that by 1908 there was a Mars research output with 30 people.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

For the MAGA right, the only lives that matter are those of right wing men. Women? Nah.

They don’t really believe in free markets. Like the MAGA crowd, they want rigged markets which work to enrich them.

It's also very selective glorification of their efficiency. They're building far more solar and wind than nuclear, but she won't mention that.

One wonders if Badenoch knows that one of the keys which makes China able to do this is the ownership structure of land. All land belongs to the state. If they want to build a nuclear power plant, there isn’t a ten year public inquiry. Maybe she wants to adopt that too?

Badenoch: "While Britain was redefining what a woman is, China built five nuclear reactors."

A perfect summary of conservative idiocy. Glorifying authoritarian post-communism for its efficiency while vilifying democracy for seeking nuance and respect.

It is the Right who hate their own countries.

Outstanding piece by Stephen Daisley.

Ethnicity is no barrier to Britishness - it's culture and integration.

That means 'smaller cohorts and aggressive integration policies' - and tackling the institutions that 'have amplified grievance narratives and radical anti-Western ideologies'.

Prof. Gurdon was Master at Magdalene when I was an undergraduate. I remember trying to make small talk while he had students over (generously) for Sunday lunch. But I also remember him making a magnificent job of introducing Nelson Mandela, who was being made an honorary fellow of the college..(1/n)

One of the defining characteristics of the MAGA right is that they are lazy and want to be given stuff for nothing. Whether it’s fat government contracts for the likes of Thiel, or the legendary and mythical $2000 checks everyone would get from tariffs, they all want things that involve no work.
alexsaysstuff.bsky.social
A large part of why American right-wing efforts to create their own versions of all the social institutions they hate - not just media, but also academia, film and TV, etc - inevitably produce such noticeably low-quality output is simply that they just don't want to put the work in.

another thing Weiss does is give other very dull people a vehicle to spout bog-standard right-wing ideas and pretend they're being iconoclasts or innovative.

This has nothing to do with crime. This is an attempt to crush political dissent.

Never before, in our entire 250 year history, has the military or immigration agents been used like this. It's dystopian, illegal, and it should stop.
ianbetteridge.com
That is a really smart idea.

Something I've observed with testing AI to develop ideas for content planning: you really need to know what "good" looks like, or you're stuffed. And if you have only ever done content planning using AI, it's hard to see how you will ever develop that skill.

Hi Bluesky! I just launched my Big Cartel fabric art shop, and I was wondering if you could help spread the word?

All of my creations are designed, hand-sewn, and hand-embroidered by me. Any sales are colossally appreciated.

Here's a lovely photo of a plethora of hand-sewn fabric art creatures. There's a watermelon creature with a red face, eight black seed-like eyes, and a wide mouth with five sharp teeth. There's a white ghost trinket bag covered with purple embroidered flowers. She has a gray face, sparkly black eyes and a little frown. There's a strawberry creature with three bulbous green eyes. There's a watermelon ghost, a strawberry ghost bag, and a black creature with sharp teeth. There's a white egg with yellow embroidered flowers and purple eyeshadow and purple lips. All the creatures are sitting on green fur and there's a galaxy print fabric in the background. The watermelon creature and the watermelon ghost are sitting on metal doll chairs. Here's a lovely photo of the cosmic ghost bag. She's a black ghost with various stars and planets embroidered on her body. There are little white stars, larger white stars, yellow stars, purple stars, a dark purple planet, a light purple planet, a red planet with a yellow ring. She has a gray moon-like face with large sparkly black eyes and a little frown. She's wearing a black fabric witch hat. She's resting on my palm and there's green fur in the background of the pic. Here's a lovely photo of three fabric art eggs watching the tiny witch homunculus balancing on one foot on a small broom. The eggs are purple, pink and white, and they're covered with embroidered flowers. The eggs have mouths with lip colors that match their flowers. They have two flat teeth poking out of their mouths. The pink egg is wearing a small sun hat. The tiny witch homunculus is green with large sparkly red eyes and a little frown. There's green fur in the background of the photo. Here's a photo of fabric art creatures with a white fabric background. There's a cute and creepy mothman with a black body and a gray face with twinkly red eyes and sharp teeth. There's a green Kentucky goblin with a lighter green face and large pointy ears. He has twinkly yellow eyes and he's wearing a black party hat covered with red googly eyes and a big red poof at the top. There's also a red death worm with nine cream-colored eyes and sharp teeth. The tiny homunculus witch is sitting on the worm's head. She's very small, with large twinkly red eyes and a green body. She's wearing a small version of the party hat the goblin's wearing.
