On the theme of, "American planners regulate the wrong things," we should have much stricter regulations on noise-proofing apartments. It's the sort of issue regulation is meant to handle: it's difficult for most consumer to assess it before making a decision, and it really impacts qualify of life.
4-plex going up a few blocks from me. Gonna see about getting a showing when it's done. If we can see 2 adjacent units at the same time I'll bring a lil Bluetooth speaker to test the acoustic performance between units.

There aren't offset studs between units, so I figure it will perform poorly.

Staff recommended that Council zone for social housing outright. ABC just voted to use federal HAF (Housing Affordability Fund) money not to enable more social housing, but to pay for staff time to develop a slower, more expensive alternative. @gregorrobertson.bsky.social

My simple test for city housing policy:
1) Do you support turning a parking lot and grocery store next to skytrain into lots of homes, and
2) do you support making it easier to build more non-market housing throughout the city?

Votes are in and only One City of Vancouver party supports both 1 & 2.
Mike Klassen just went full NIMBY in council just now, citing "principles of liveability" (a deeply NIMBY coded phrase) to apparently set the stage to justify his vote against legalizing more affordable social housing.

And sure enough, ABC voted against the Social Housing Initiative. Rank NIMBYism.

It’s really great that the city of Vancouver transportation department lets cars with 1 person in them clog Kerrisdale and bunch the busses every single day. Nice priorities 🤗

Incredible!! Just got confirmation from Tanille Johnston that it looks like their teamwork paid off:

Tony McQuail hit his fundraising goal after — along with Tanille and volunteers — they raised thousands in today’s telethon fundraiser.

Pretty astonishing, heartwarming stuff.
Cute that since Tanille Johnston raised enough to make it through to the next stage of NDP leadership, she’s teaming up to try to get Tony McQuail across the finish line.

Deadline is tonight. I gotta say the camaraderie on display from these two is pretty endearing

Congratulations on keeping overbooked and unobtainable lessons affordable!

Sure would have been a travesty if you’d also expanded capacity.
Today Council unanimously supported my amendment in today’s budget deliberations. We’ve reallocated $800,000 from the City’s existing budget to make sure Community Centre recreation fees stay at 0% increase in 2026. This means admission, passes, lessons, programs, and permits remain affordable.
