My point is that people in the US don’t like being silenced or like censorship. That is one thing that there will always be groups that fight for.
That’s not to say that it doesn’t happen. But it’s how we see ourselves, as a country with “free speech.” And it’s important to us to remain that.

Is it? The United States has been ruthlessly effective at silencing free speech throughout its history, if it hasn't fitted the narrative of those in power, perceived or otherwise. World Wars, LGBTI+, First Nations Americans, African Americans, People with disabilities, just to name a few.
