I posted to Twitter for what looks like the fifth time this year yesterday. Checked back today and the post has 39,000 likes, 3.2k retweets — and 9 replies, and 4 quote tweets. I'm sorry folks those numbers ain't real. Bordering on a statistical impossibility. It's gotta be almost entirely fake.

Por supuesto, los libertarios tan pro-libertad de expresión y todo eso no dirán nada de la censura de las tarjetas de crédito, porque lo que les molesta de la censura gubernamental no es que sea censura, sino que es gubernamental.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

unfortunately I fear that “what online has done to people’s brains” will be dwarfed by “what gen AI specifically has done to people’s brains”

and online sure has done a number on us
i think in a few decades we will view what being online has done to certain peoples brains the way we view the effects of lead poisoning on society

“Becker argues that the only way to break free of these visions is to see them for what they are: a convenient excuse to continue destroying the environment, skirt regulations, amass more power and control, and dismiss the very real problems of today to focus on the imagined ones of tomorrow.”
Tech billionaires are making a risky bet with humanity’s future
Altman, Bezos, and Musk say they want to save humanity by creating superintelligent AI. Journalist and astrophysicist Adam Becker reveals how these fantastical visions conceal a darker agenda.

This is not a tactical discussion, but an observation of a fact that keeps getting lost in these discussions: non-violence requires *discipline* in the face of guaranteed brutality on the part of the people you’re protesting. You simply cannot expect it from a spontaneous protest
Moreover, the way Civil Rights is taught positions non-violence as the Moral choice used by the Good Ones (unlike those scary misguided Radicals!) rather than an extremely — even ruthlessly — disciplined approach that was extremely clear-eyed about what it would cost

One of the worst legacies of 2000s New Atheism was the idea that conflicts like the Troubles or Israel-Palestine were thousand-year religious wars that could end if the participants stopped being so superstitious, rather than political conflicts with start dates, causes and goals on both sides.

One of the funniest things about the oligarch group chats story is the implication that the story leaked now due to the chats falling apart from Trump tarriffs. Like people are getting disappeared and the president's son is "joking" about no elections in 2028 but it was tarriffs that triggered them
