Trust me when I say that bottle girls, gas station clerks, strippers, front desk employees at hotels and airports, baristas, etc. have better de-escalation skills than any cop I've ever seen.

I need more folks to know that Brooke Smith of Silence of the Lambs fame (she's instructed to put the lotion in the basket) was a member of the 1980s New York Hardcore scene and a photographer who documented that scene prolifically. She has a book called Sunday Matinee, which is absolutely stunning.

Today I saw a tourist face-timing with someone exclaim “I’m in Maine, man, look there’s water here!” Then he walked to the very end of a boat launch and started moaning at the ocean. It was so incredibly sincere and enthusiastic. I will only accept this kind of tourist energy from here on out.

I have as much disdain for the remake/adaptation mania currently suffocating the film industry as the next guy, but I think if someone were to abstract a monster of the week episode of Buffy into a short or feature length horror film that is actually scary, it should be all of them.
