It’s good that countries are stepping in to aid the flotilla if necessary but how is a ship with a top speed of 37km/h leaving from Cartagena in the western Mediterranean going to help when the flotilla is 2000+km away east of Crete.

This matters but only insofar as mass unpopularity translates into actual resistance against the administration and its cronies. Let's be real - dictators keep power just fine by cultivating a loyal coalition of capitalists, media outlets, universities, government agencies etc.

I am now starting to suspect that people doom posting themselves into saying it doesn't matter that Trump is wildly unpopular because he is going to do a dictatorship are themselves an op. Dictatorships aren't stable by magic, they need people to buy in and go along with them. This matters.

Want to caution against the impulse to insert geopolitics into this. Something extraordinary has happened in Nepal and the movement seems organic and grassroots. Undeniably foreign influence is and will continue to be a factor in Nepal but a geopolitical characterization is unhelpful rn.

A caretaker government should be formed under Karki’s leadership tomorrow morning. This interim government should pave the way for new elections within a specified time limit - likely 6 months.

While there was overwhelming support for another candidate - the mayor of Kathmandu, Balen Shah, the youth decided they would preserve their top choice for when elections happen and go with Karki in the interim.
