Neoliberal paradigms of efficiency lend themselves readily to authoritarian forms of control + hasty and opaque overhauls also risk destabilizing important government functions. Read about DOGE’s gambit at the IRS in this piece I wrote with @asteephen.bsky.social.

Gen Z Morocco protests turn violent as gov’t pledges talks
The protests in Morocco are part of a global wave, stretching from Nepal to Madagascar, where Gen Z is protesting against corruption and social injustice.

Read my latest on Nepal’s Gen Z revolution in @crimethinc.com. I write about the specter of corruption, political violence, revolutionary praxis, and radical inclusion.

The so-called "Gen Z" protests are continuing to spread around the world.

To follow up our interview with Black Book Distro in Kathmandu, we offer more context for the conditions that produced the revolution in Nepal and the horizons that are opening before it.

In the Afterglow of Revolution, a New Nepal Emerges
Escalated by police violence, a protest movement in Nepal snowballed into a spontaneous insurrection, culminating on September 9, 2025 with the toppling of the government. To follow up our intervie...

It’s good that countries are stepping in to aid the flotilla if necessary but how is a ship with a top speed of 37km/h leaving from Cartagena in the western Mediterranean going to help when the flotilla is 2000+km away east of Crete.

The geography isn’t geographying.

Saw someone post about how it's really fucked up that we all have to speculate about whether or not the FBI manufactured evidence to back their version of events. The thing is, you should always suspect that about law enforcement—these guys are just more clown-ish and obvious about it.

Democrats never needed the emergence of entire think tanks to convince them to abandon trans people. They have always left trans folx behind in practice anyway. Besides, they have lately been itching to jump on the anti trans bandwagon. All on their own.

Kamala Harris cites concerns about trans athletes in her book
The Trump campaign attacked Harris over her positions on transgender rights. She says they were misconstrued.

They’ve decided there’s money to be made in AI and they will make it regardless. It doesn’t matter that they will destroy indigenous life, water, land and wipe out livelihoods for something that can’t tell if a bowl is empty or full!

Went back on instagram and X briefly to follow what was happening in Nepal. My reaction: I kinda see why people are on instagram. I can’t fucking believe people are still on X.

Unpopularity isn't enough! What matters is whether that unpopularity mobilizes into genuine opposition that disrupts power.
iraregmi.bsky.social
This matters but only insofar as mass unpopularity translates into actual resistance against the administration and its cronies. Let's be real - dictators keep power just fine by cultivating a loyal coalition of capitalists, media outlets, universities, government agencies etc.
lastpositivist.bsky.social
I am now starting to suspect that people doom posting themselves into saying it doesn't matter that Trump is wildly unpopular because he is going to do a dictatorship are themselves an op. Dictatorships aren't stable by magic, they need people to buy in and go along with them. This matters.

It’s not a double standard this *is* their standard.

Speech for them not for us.
Violence for us not for them.

Pranay Rana and @amishmulmi.bsky.social are also reliable sources. Western and India medias understanding and characterization of the situation in Nepal has bordered journalistic malpractice. And that’s a generous take.
iraregmi.bsky.social
Want to caution against the impulse to insert geopolitics into this. Something extraordinary has happened in Nepal and the movement seems organic and grassroots. Undeniably foreign influence is and will continue to be a factor in Nepal but a geopolitical characterization is unhelpful rn.
iraregmi.bsky.social
Subscribing to Pranay’s substack - Kalam weekly is also a good idea. Please don’t rely on Western or Indian mainstream media. I saw someone say that their news sources apparently are chickpeas (Democracy Now is good)!

Uncertainty arises about whether the president will actually heed GenZ's demands. Within the next 4-5 hours, we should gain clarity on whether the presidents hesitation concerns the dissolution of parliament, the nomination of Sushila Karki, or both issues.
iraregmi.bsky.social
In a victory, former chief justice Sushila Karki has been nominated as Nepal's interim Prime minister by a historic grassroots movement with over 120K young Nepalis organizing through Discord selecting her as the nominee of the Gen Z uprising.
iraregmi.bsky.social
I usually don’t post this casually. But - I’m going to urge my American friends to pay attention to what’s happening in Nepal. Even people on the left are still stuck being insular AF with at best negative form of American exceptionalism. No wonder most have the political imagination of tree stumps
iraregmi.bsky.social
Meanwhile, dissolution of the parliament remains the central demand in ongoing negotiations. The youth revolutionaries insist this is non-negotiable as the current parliament consists of the same corrupt political class they rose up to render obsolete.
iraregmi.bsky.social
A caretaker government should be formed under Karki’s leadership tomorrow morning. This interim government should pave the way for new elections within a specified time limit - likely 6 months.
iraregmi.bsky.social
While there was overwhelming support for another candidate - the mayor of Kathmandu, Balen Shah, the youth decided they would preserve their top choice for when elections happen and go with Karki in the interim.
