I’m sure many people have already pointed this out but Scalise’s injuries from the congressional baseball game shooting would render him ineligible for almost any of the lower cost plans that would be advertised during football games. Or would not have covered his bills in the first place.

This. The amount of knowledge and stats most sportswriters carry around in their heads is its own expertise—there’s a podcaster who can recite an NHL trade-tree that dates back to the 1980s just from memory. He’s impressive! I don’t find the same knowledge-base present in most political reporting.
It’s often said that too many political writers cover politics as if it’s sports. Actually they cover politics as if they are bad at covering sports

One underrated thing in how expensive everything is is that it is really a death by a thousand cuts. We live in a small township that’s pretty rural and the garbage expenses for next year are going up 40% because that was the lowest bid received.
