given how common the "you're the sole survivor of a spaceship crash on a hostile planet" story is in factory games, someone should make a reverse-factory game where you play as an alien tracking down and destroying colonizers who fall out of the sky and try to turn your planet into green tech cards

Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.

Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

They admitted it.

I've been talking about Castle Automatic a lot, but I want to make sure I pull the camera back and talk about the game system it's built for, HIS MAJESTY THE WORM, too. Gonna make a 🧵 about the core game's principles and add to it over the coming week.

got lots of compliments from a bunch of old women on my lovely necklace today, and no one knew it was the amulet of kings from Todd Howard's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Something I love about writing RPGs is learning weird new words. Yesterday, I discovered the word hagioscope (or "squint") to describe an architectural figure that lets people in different parts of a cathedral see the high altar.

Anchorites who wall themselves up use them to peep into mass.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

happy anniversary to the thing I wrought
Happy(?) anniversary to a very special moment in Silent Hill history -- a real cut above the rest.

Yesterday through Tuesday is the 10th anniversary of the Silent Hill Circumcision Meltdown.

This is pure conjecture, but I've always felt that the World of Darkness games pushed TTRPGs forward *in spite* of their rules and intended playstyles.

The setting, its lore and the complicated themes it dealt with were far too grand for those constraints, almost tempting you to break the mold.
This kind of thing is why I think WoD was significantly more impactful on subsequent RPG design than D&D. People could see something different and new buried under all the bloat and structural minutia and it inspired so much.
