No surprise:

This needs fighting politically, not technically. We don't want to be China. Porn is the excuse, control is the reason.

"Think of the children" should cover what world we want them to have. Is it really one of surveillance by government and big tech?

I'd like some numbers, but this a good read. I always tell people to get into self hosting if they want to learn Linux. I'd expand on the second hand hardware bit. Linux and open source is great for "junkyard computing".

Self‑hosting isn’t anti‑cloud; it’s pro‑agency. It’s choosing the right locus of control for the things you care about.

With home charging, an EV costs about 2p per mile. 3p of tax per mile is putting 150% tax on EVs. If your EV carries an ICE engine, even if it is never used, you have "only" a 75% tax. No charge to dirty ICE. So anti-EV/air/planet.

Slow clap to Labour. Lost more voters to Greens.

The BBC is the biggest thump of soft power the UK has and its reach and influence to the benefit of the country is extraordinary. Destroy it, hugely damage the UK. The same people who helped weaken us over Brexit are seeking to do it again.
Interesting to see so many great British patriots right now begging an American president to bankrupt one of Britain’s last remaining truly national institutions.

There were 93 homicides in London last year: population 9 million

In New York - population 8.5 million - there were
391.

London's homicide figure is 6 times lower than LA, 9 times lower than Miami, 17 times lower than Chicago.

And it's falling year on year despite the population increasing

Excellent write up of a coming anticompetitive move by Google. A move that would basically stop F-Droid, the safe, unconflicted, place to install open source on your Android phone.

Maybe hope in the world of printers. Maybe a printer that can be trusted? One that is not ripping us off and not always working?

I can and can’t believe this is happening in the US right now. Most people in the US are surely completely against the fascist tactics being used by ICE. And this is the dystopian world Nigel Farage and Reform want to inflict on the UK. Absolutely no way can he ever be PM

Like many, I work with headphones. The plastic on my nice headphones broken in exactly the same place that killed the last pair. BUT unlike my old headphones, I can just order a replacement for the broken plastic bit. So glad I went for repairability this time!
