While politicians in DC argue, working people pay the price. Audrey cleans the Smithsonian. Tiara protects it. Maria keeps federal buildings spotless.

All three are losing income & sleep as the government shutdown drags on.

Shutdowns don’t punish politicians—they punish people.

‘I don’t know how I’m going to feed my kids’: Shutdown hits federal contractors hard | CNN Business
Unlike federal employees, contractors typically don’t receive backpay when the government reopens from a shutdown. Low-wage service workers, including cleaners, janitors, security guards, cafeteria wo...

Assata Shakur's story reminds us that incarcerated pregnant people are still shackled & denied care.

#ReproductiveJustice means:
- No shackling & coercion
- No punishment for abortion, miscarriage, or birth
- The right to parent, or not, in safety and dignity

#HonorAssata #StopPolicingPregnancy
Assata: An Autobiography book cover. A yellow tear sheet is underneath with text that reads: In her autobiography, Assata Shakur shared how she was denied care, pressured to end the pregnancy she wanted, then shackled during labor after fighting for a gynecologist. Closeup of the Assata Autobiography book cover. Cream tearsheet underneath has a line down the middle. The left side reads: "'Isn't there something you can give me to keep me from having a miscarriage?'-Assata Shakur". The right side reads: "'my advice is to have an abortion...It would be best for everybody concerned...no matter which way you have it.' -Prison doctor" Photo of a young Assata smiling with her child daughter. Teal tearsheet underneath reads: Assata and her family struggled to honor her pregnancy choice.

The fight remains today for incarcerated people to access reproductive safety, birthing care, and abortions.

RJ means ending the policing of our bodies, inside and outside prison walls." Photo of Assata looking up with a hammered gold crescent shaped earring in her ear. Saturated orange tearsheet reads: "I believe that oppressed people, wherever they are, have the right to self-determination”

“From street cameras to drones and regional fusion hubs, surveillance systems are increasingly built atop AWS. The pitch Amazon makes to law enforcement is about more than raw infrastructure. It is also about access, connections, and momentum.“
Amazon’s quiet rise as a power broker in police surveillance | Biometric Update
AWS has positioned itself not just as a host of police data but also as a promoter and intermediary for surveillance tools.

There was a significant change just made to D.C.’s criminal justice system, but D.C. residents had no say in it at all.

President Trump’s reinstatement of capital punishment is certain to run into obstacles here, @maustermule.bsky.social writes — namely the city’s residents.
Capital punishment: What it means that Trump reinstated the death penalty in D.C.
D.C. did away with the death penalty 44 years ago, but the president is bringing it back.

even if LIWC doesn’t have a dictionary, you may be able to borrow from studies that developed one. i’d check methods of similar studies to get a feel if a dictionary is out there somewhere, beyond what LIWC already offers. we’ve done this with other very specific concepts outside the norm.

It is our duty to fight for our freedom
It is our duty to win
We must love each other and support each other
We have nothing to lose but our chains

For many communities, the compounded impact of anti-immigration laws, surveillance, and the threat of deportation, detention, or forced family separation violently strips them of their reproductive freedom.
The Anti-Migrant Crackdown Is Also a Reproductive Justice Crisis
Working on abortion access in Texas, we see every day how immigration justice and reproductive justice are inseparable.

Organized repression and violence have been used by the ruling class for as long as there have been class divisions, but modern policing is a very specific kind of repressive institution with a number of historically unique features.
Policing Has Always Been a Tool to Repress the Working Class
Modern policing was born out of a series of transatlantic ruling class experiments to repress radical rebellion.

This includes the third-country removal to Ghana and another secret flight. We figured out where it landed.
