Tragic news from Canada where the Canadian Supreme Court has gone from the official dress on the left to the one on the right
Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in bright red wooly gowns, with a beige trim. It looks sort of like a Santa robe The Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in black gowns with a bright white kravat, and two thin red vertical lines on the side of the robe

We often focus on municipal issues, but the Province has a giant role to play in keeping people safe on our streets.

Here are 5 ideas the Province could implement, most of them nearly overnight, all of them within current budget constraints (a few even make money!) in order to save lives.

More evidence that speed cameras work.

"Since those cameras were put up, 57% of drivers were slowing down and adhering to the speed limit. In some school zones, it was as high as 90%"

“Eighty-five per cent of people who have been issued one ticket have only been issued [that] one ticket”

It was awesome collaborating with @tomflood.bsky.social on this project. So cool to see this up!
Billboard reads: Smoking tables next to non-smoking tables used to be normal too. Join us in fighting for safe streets. The vision Zero logo and Rovelo Creative are listed below. On the right, a photo of a young child riding a bike on the shoulder of a road next to a very large truck.

Big news! We recently registered as a non-profit and can now accept donations. They'll help fund things like: stickers around town, attending events, and paying our awesome summer intern. If you like the work we do and want to see us do more, please consider donating ❤️

I'm proud to report that my amendment to the Granville Street Plan has passed - directing staff to explore substantial road safety and accessibility improvements, including benches, bollards, bus bulbs and a bike parkade.

A good day for safer streets for all!
A unanimous vote in favour of Cllr Maloney's amendment with Cllrs Dominato and Klassen and Mayor Sim absent.

Great to see the new detour open! The new orientation is much safer for cyclists and pedestrians, and brings them back to the beautiful views along the water. Thanks to the city for taking action!

Thank you for your patience, Vancouver, during the temporary seawall detour near Science World. I’m pleased to share that the new seawall path is now open – featuring two wide and separated side-by-side paths for pedestrians and cyclists. #vanpoli 1/3 @visionzerovancouver.ca

Just fucking stop for a minute and think about how ridiculous it would be for someone to hit another car from behind and then the police blamed the car that got hit for not getting out of the way.

A person is injured, the VPD have failed them, "expert lawyers" are misleading the public, and changes to the MVA are pointless unless actually upheld. THREAD 🧵

20 speeding tickets in 1.5h on a single block - now extrapolate that out to the whole city. This is clear evidence that random police checks can't solve this issue. We need automated speed cameras at all high risk intersections.

This morning, Ken Sim made a direct call for the expansion of involuntary mental healthcare in response to the horrific incident at the Lapu Lapu Day festival. As a road safety group, we'd also like to point out the importance of considering preventative measures from a road safety perspective. 🧵

I’m proud to be a part of a group that always demands action while always carefully considering the impact of our actions on others. This statement took far more work and deliberation than you can imagine. But we will be neither callous nor tolerant of callousness.

Vision Zero Vancouver is devastated by the horrific events that unfolded at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party.
Vision Zero Vancouver is devastated by the horrific events that unfolded at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party. We are grieving with the victims, the survivors, their families, the Filipino community, and everyone impacted by this senseless loss of life.
This was an act of road violence, and a result of our collective failure to protect the Filipino community and event attendees. As an organization, we exist to put an end to serious injuries and deaths on our streets. We can and should build resilience into our cities and prevent future tragedies. We will continue to fight for what we know works.
