Unhook ourselves from oil and gas and we unhook ourselves from dependency on dictators, autocrats and expansionist regimes all over the planet.
Renewables and other low-carbon energy sources are not just good climate sense. They are also good political sense.

Parents! Carers! If the children in your care have just sat their GCSE mock exams, don’t make them feel shit if they’ve done badly. Instead, tell them you love them no matter what. Because you should. Because you chose to bring them into this stupid world that makes them do things like mock GCSEs

Without asylum:

Marks and Spencer wouldn't exist

Queen would have been without a front man

The other queen wouldn't have had a husband

Judith Kerr would never have written The Tiger Who Came to Tea

And thousands of less famous people wouldn't have been teachers, politicians, neighbours, etc

I read a lot of opinions about AI and the future of work, and this post by @naomialderman.bsky.social is the best I've come across in a long time. It was written for young people the same age as my daughters, and the best compliment I can give it is that I immediately shared it with them.

It would be *so* easy for the techbro wankers to become global heroes, loved, remembered fondly forever, if they used their considerable resources to do something about this instead of actually making things worse with their literally evil plans to make more money from AI
This graph says it all: instead of starting to go down, the *annual increase* of atmospheric CO2 is setting new records. We're making climate change worse at a record rate.
Turning this around should be our top priority, and it's not.

At the risk of sounding like a government spokesperson, I wonder if we're too gloomy. NHS waiting times are falling, as are net migration numbers. Growth hasn't been fast, but it's improved. Real wages are growing. Inflation is a bit sticky, but much reduced.

With such a massive majority, Labour could have pushed through genuinely progressive changes to this country. Sadly they went for hypocrisy and bigotry instead. It's the lost hope that is so upsetting. Things could have been very different.

A word on immigration. Don't prejudge this, just listen to the data, and then consider what the solution is.

The UK has a falling birth rate. This means that - unless things change - each generation will be 25% smaller than the one before.

Why on earth is Labour so completely effing hopeless at making the case for values, kindness and inclusion? What was the point of voting for them if they are happy to abandon any decent principles and pander constantly to bigots?
