Got only one book for Christmas, but it’s a pretty good album.

Won the movie guessing game at the family board game night and my father was genuinely upset because "YOU DON'T EVEN WATCH TV!"

In the end, I can't decide if this was a tragedy, a comedy, or just straight up horror.

Told my friend that maybe I should read something more cheerful than the "ravings of a mad soviet emigré" and he told me "Why? It suits you."
I should pick my next book carefully...

“A penniless smartass in the West is the same as a wiseguy in Moscow who holds no office.”
– Aleksandr Zinoviev

Zinoviev‘s comments on both the West and the USSR are often weirdly applicable today.
He calls the European armies “Theatre armies” that pretend to be serious.
On the other hand, the Red Army, despite it’s apparent incompetence and corruption, remains an army of destruction.

In Homo Sovieticus Zinoviev tells an emigré conversation about what‘s to be done after the “collapse of the USSR”
Some recommend monarchy, some “real socialism” before someone says
“After the current Soviet system collapses we should go ahead and restore the current Soviet system. It could be worse”

Reading Zinoviev's "Homo Sovieticus" feels like repeatedly getting punched by some tough Russian guy and then asked to laugh alongside him because getting punched is funny, why aren't you laughing?

In a sudden upset I have proven my college supervisor wrong.

After seeing my presentation, she had no choice but to accept that the topic I picked for my research seminar (and have been pursuing in my off time for over a year now) is actually worthwhile and researchable.

There’s a schizo old guy at the conference for some reason. He just handed everyone a pamphlet on Hungarian pseudolinguistics. And he is very enthusiastically spewing nonsense.

My copy of Ling Shu‘s #凌曙 complete works has finally arrived and it looks awesome. For the first time, all his works are collected in one place and the biographical studies already look very promising. Just in time to still be included in my dissertation! #Sinology #ChinesePhilosophy #Philology #清代

Having a moment where I'm unsure if Trump has ever said that he's the "Money President" or if it's just a Smiling Friends bit that's essentially gaslighting me into thinking he did.

The Steam replay really makes me question my life choices honestly, because I kinda despise like 2/5 of these games, and have a lot of contempt for at least 1.

Three cups of soju, a mug of Glühwein, and yet I feel nothing the next day. I'm indestructible!

Funniest story I heard in a while involved a Korean who studied Hungarology, came to Hungary and then said that the country is disappointing because we don't wear folk outfits, eat Gulash every night or go to the opera.

And like, it's reassuring that this is a two way street.

So far the only thing I can remark on is that this is much more unforgiving than 5 or the P3 remake.

The are direction is making me sick sometimes. Which is a good thing. I like it. It's doing its job.
Also it's nice to see that it's not romanticizing the countryside too much.

You know, playing Yakuza 0 I had this hunch that it will just have a twist ending because it's set in the 80s and it has characters fighting over a plot of land and I just thought maybe it will just tell you that all this was meaningless because the bubble then pops but no.

Well, that's the exams done for the year.
Now onto baking that funky little Roman Saturnalia treat I saw online and buying presents.

If I had a nickel for each time I got Pu Yi's autobiography from a teacher right before Christmas, I'd have two nickels. Which is not a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
