Jamie, just your average Merseyside-based foulmouthed slutty gay Welsh leftwing vegetarian historian. he/him. Strong language and scenes of a sexual nature from the start. The only good fascist is a dead fascist. NSFW alt: @bearbehind.bsky.social

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Meg Ryan agrees and adds that Bryan Ferry showed poor judgment in complimenting Third Reich aesthetics but that Roxy Music still has some undeniable bangers.

Geena Davis was asked to comment but declined.

The local government subdivision is added to the address at that point, then disappears again on the PDF you print out. That’s very weird behaviour and bad UX.

Education for education’s sake — learning about something because you want to learn about it — is not only an unalloyed good thing, it’s a fundamental part of what makes humans human. Arguing against it is inhuman. And Tim’s very correct about not telling adults what to do with their time and money.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

imagining the cleaning lady standing in shock as all seventeen fall one after the other through the door of a cupboard which could surely never have contained them in the first place

I think a lot about how intrinsically odd it is that we map every political position (and tragically cultural behaviour) on a straight line from left to right, determined by the seating positions adopted by the French National Assembly after the revolution

Chris is not a fan of it when raw because of the taste. Like you, the best he can say is that it's "bitter but not *bitter* bitter". It'll be a gene that some people have and others don't – like being able to taste TCP and sprouts!

Ah, are you not a fan? I like it because when it's cooked it retains some crunch and my mouth-texture-autism thing is against sloppy/slimy, so it can make sloppy/slimy ingredients less noticeable.

Started taking them last night. Not sure whether this is why I woke up exhausted this morning.

Prescribed new pills that might substantially mitigate or end a long-standing health problem. No really problematic common side effects.

Whatever you think of RTD, he knows television and knows the warning flares need to be sent up. Television and journalism need to start questioning and pushing back. Pushing back hard.

Morrisons have started doing a frozen soffritto mix that has made making ragù and other sauces much easier. Saves me making my own and freezing it too.
Morrisons vegetable base mix, because heaven forfend we confuse people by saying soffritto.

The wonderful Hattie Jacques left us on this day in 1980. This advert is probably the last thing she ever recorded.

My mum swears by Stérimar, which is literally just purified sea water that you spray up your nose. Says it helps instantly. She’s had sinusitis outbreaks for decades and it goes away almost immediately on use. No personal experience of it, but she is an evangelist for it. Boots usually have it.

Trust the science is my watchword usually, but what if you don’t trust the scientists? (The prescribers, rather than the ones who invented it).

If the meds work, it’ll be brilliant for me. And the US leaflet not having the UK warning weighs in favour.

But it still feels like Russian roulette.

With no confidence in the ditzy nurse who came up with the suggestion, minus-level confidence in the ignorant and rude doctor that signed the prescription, and no support whatsoever from my husband, this is all on me to decide. And I’m scared.
