this reminds me of the debate over whether or not george zimmerman was racist based on whether or not he might have uttered the n-word and not based on the fact that he stalked and murdered trayvon martin because he equated black male youth in casual attire with violent criminality
i like how "is the director of ice a fascist" is a question the media is trying to answer by decoding whether his stupid ass trenchcoat was inspired by the nazis and not by like, him leading a paramilitary force of masked thugs terrorize people in the name of a reactionary authoritarian regime

The media should cover sport the way they cover the state murder of civilians:

‘Jannik Sinner appeared to win the French Open yesterday after what supporters say was a comeback from being two sets down.’

People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

This is why Democrats simply cannot work with Republicans in Congress on appropriations or anything else in good faith. Trump will illegally seize money appropriated to Democratic states, refuse them disaster aid, threaten them with Fed invasion, threaten their governors, etc.

Any Democratic votes to fund DHS later this month as Minneapolis is being terrorized by DHS is going to be a major slap in the face to Americans living here. Demand major reforms or shut the government down.

I’m not surprised Trump and Hegseth thought this was a good idea. They have the wisdom and knowledge of 9YO boys playing video games. But the career military officers knew better. Congress needs to haul them in, and show the rest of the military what happens when you obey illegal orders.
Breaking NYT:

The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first boat attack, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The laws of armed conflict forbid combatants from feigning civilian status.

That is a war crime called "perfidy."

Hard to overstate what a remarkable statement this is from a Republican senator — even a retiring one — accusing thte Trump White House of weaponizing DOJ to control the Fed:

"It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question."

I have some congresspeople who follow me, so I'll just throw this out there:

As a taxpayer, I would actually prefer that you *not* continue to fund the fascist military machine that is being used to kill and kidnap people from our communities.

I guess the silver lining in all this is that it's obvious the 2nd Amendment is useless as a protection against tyranny and might as well be thrown away

Exactly this! Any GOP Senators and Congressional Reps have the moral courage to define “high crimes and misdemeanors?”
Here’s the scathing statement from @markwarner.bsky.social, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee.

I asked Chevron if anyone at the company had any communication with the White House prior to the U.S. military strike on Venezuela.

🤔

I'm old enough to remember a few hours ago when this was supposedly about drugs.
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.

It’s about oil and regime change.

And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.

Maduro was a brutal ruler, it’s true. So is Putin—who Trump supports. So was Bolsonaro, who Trump supports. So was the drug-trafficking former head of Honduras, who Trump just pardoned. So is Nayib Bukele in El Salvador. MBS. Bibi.

Stop pretending Trump cares about illegitimacy or brutality.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Oh, guns are already controlled there?

Yeah, that says it all.

Trump now a pirate who pardons drugs kingpins. Excellent work.

I don’t give a hoot how the person in the next plane seat is dressed, but I care deeply that they don’t stink. This is a terrible idea, and Duffy is completely out of touch. Bring back the cash reimbursements for delayed and cancelled flights.
Duffy on what he's doing to improve the airport experience for travelers: "Maybe I want a workout area where people might get some blood flowing doing some pull ups or step ups in the airport."

It's wild but not surprising that last week the White House was leaning into "these seditious Democrats dared suggest that troops were receiving illegal orders!!!" and this week they are scrambling to figure out who to blame for issuing illegal orders.

Why have we allowed the narrative to be “who let Lakanwal into the country,”and not:
🚩 how he got a gun,
🚩 why he wanted to murder guard members,
🚩 who knew his intent ahead of time,
🚩 why none of his family/friends/coworkers raised red flags,
🚩 and why the guard was in DC in the first place?
