Many complex trauma struggles & symptoms don't lead back to things the culture-- or even the DSM-- register as "trauma."
Many of them lead back to things as simple-- & destructive-- as parents who just weren't very interested in us.

the speed at which these guys have broken everything has given a lot of folks who should know better the impression that they are an unstoppable force and the only option is to negotiate the terms of surrender

I have spent some time thinking about how we attach all this social meaning to turning 30 or turning 40, but the only reason is because of the base 10 number systems. nothing actually Happens. no one magically transforms into a crone. a 30-year-old is a 29-year-old plus one.
when I teach theory, one of the hardest things to teach is how to spot our assumptions; assumptions tend to be invisible unless they’re pointed out or violated

Telling a trauma survivor who has been functionally on their own since they were a kid that they "have" to "reach out" for "relational healing" disrespects & misunderstands their wound.
The only "have to" in trauma recovery is, we have to find a recovery path that works for us.
