There's no excuse for the Vice President of the United States to use a heinous killing as an occasion to baselessly frame political opponents as accomplices to murder while threatening to use the power of the government to attack them.

This dangerous rhetoric will only fan the flames.

Set aside Sen. Mike Lee's storm of lies and incitement here. Lee literally made jokes on Twitter about the fmr Speaker of the Minnesota state house being murdered in her home by a right wing extremist. Hard to imagine any more twisted and malicious person in public life.

Decrying violence against political opponents rings a bit hollow when you pull Secret Service protection from your political opponents.

I don’t give a shit if JD Vance doesn’t give a shit about the Constitution. Striking civilian boats in international waters is both unconstitutional and a war crime. The party of “law and order” clearly doesn’t care about respecting it.

Obviously. Maxwell would have no reason to include this document in her birthday book for Epstein, if she had any inkling it weren’t authentic. And who would have a motive to fake this, 20 years ago?

I think of Twitter as the modern equivalent of the magazines you could buy at any grocery store checkout. No one worth paying attention to.
Each and every week there's a new post insisting that Twitter is "our national public square" or "the only conversation that matters" and every time it's written by by Some Guy I Only Know From Twitter and Haven't Thought About Once Since Leaving Twitter.

The CEO of a a multi-trillion dollar company went to the White House, openly handed the US president a gift made of gold, and his company got a special exemption to tariffs the president has illegally imposed.

Also, the Founders took bribery so seriously the Constitution bans it 3 separate times.

I think we should just get Steph Curry or Dolly Parton to cut an ad telling us why we should donate organs on death. That would work!

Since the science protests early in the regime, have there been protests specifically targeting Trump's assault on climate and health science?

Essentially, if your continued residence in the U.S. is formally discretionary, they force you out, independent of the discretionary factors they are supposed to be evaluating, like here: “Wounded in combat while serving in the Army, married to a US citizen, two kids who are citizens.”

Trump is declaring fake emergencies against immigrants and protesters while gutting our capacity to respond to actual emergencies like natural disasters and pandemics.

I ran an experiment, simultaneously posting articles on Bluesky and X, and then testing to see how many people actually clicked and read them. The numbers on Bluesky are higher, both because the X algorithm downranks journalism, and because Bluesky attracts readers, not just shitposters.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Canada’s GDP is $2.15 trillion. Last year, Canada’s tax revenue on its economy was $459 billion.

$So Trump is offering a one-time $61 billion payment in exchange for taking our tax revenue permanently? Tempting? No.
Canada is not going to give up its sovereignty to become a U.S. state for the safety of Trump's Golden Dome.

Benjamin Franklin would agree! Big Ben warned against trading liberty for safety 250 years ago!

"I care about social cohesion and social solidarity, which is why I tried to convince white people in Ohio that Haitian immigrants were eating their dogs."

Naturally, Douthat does not challenge him at all on these lies.
“Social solidarity is destroyed when you have too much migration too quickly,” JD Vance tells our columnist Ross Douthat in this episode of “Interesting Times.” “That’s not because I hate the migrants or I’m motivated by grievance. That’s because I’m trying to preserve something in my own country.”
