This guy literally did what Jesus would've done (call them to repentance and offer salvation) and they fucking shot him and laughed about it. I don't want to hear one Evangelical whining about being persecuted when shit like this is happening

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

Also an argument against identity politics: just because someone is living an openly queer life does not make them a good person or a reliable educator or voice of the community

NYT: A Campaign to 'Bring Back Bullying'

On social media, some are arguing that bullying deserves a second look. Trolling or not, the push seems to reflect a general turn away from sensitivity.

BTW James Dobson started the Alliance Defending Freedom legal organization, which is set to undo Colorado's ban on gay conversion therapy. Dobson really, really loved conversion therapy of all types (for autistic kids AND queer kids).

This will be a vote to erase 50 years of medical and psychiatric knowledge and kill gay and trans kids, because MAGA Republicans feel that in a better world, fewer of them would exist. It is that simple. Democrats must make SCOTUS expansion part of the party platform. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...

I was the chief author who passed the conversion therapy ban in MN and while doing that, I met many people who experienced the so-called therapy. And I need to be clear, conversion therapy is TORTURE. It is ineffectual torture that we sanction for children. And it's WRONG.

When you'd rather have a dead kid than a queer one, allowing conversion therapy practices makes total sense. They don't want to deal with a living queer kid; they want to mourn the imaginary one they don't have.

This is unbelievable.

Conversion therapy increases fatalities. It does the opposite of what treatments are supposed to do. We ban medical treatments that claim to heal while actually harming. That's not a free speech issue, it's a malpractice issue.

We are in such an upside-down world.

Sometimes people say I do asexuality awareness to compensate for having an empty or rejection-filled life. (LOL.) But once, some dude saw all my various interests and projects and said THAT was an attempted compensation for a void in my life. Wow! No matter what I do, it's proof that I'm messed up?

I am so glad I did not fulfill my career dream of being an entertainment editor after college because I learned that I always fanatically love the most "basic" massive media empires that are simultaneously widely disdained and the butt of the joke online.

You’ll now be able to get an updated coronavirus shot in every state without a prescription, according to the American Pharmacists Association.

CVS and Walgreens have stated you won’t need to attest to any underlying conditions and the questions will be removed from their online booking system.

I am (unfortunately) an accidental expert on eugenics, and let me just say with my full throat: if we eliminated every "AI" chatbot and plagiarism LLM and search engine "assistant", it would not be eugenics or genocide. These things are not PEOPLE. There's no "intelligence" involved.

i think it’s actually completely okay to say an algorithm is not a real person
hailey @hailey.at
if you're writing a sentence that sounds like eugenics but you go "oh that's fine to say because it's not a real person" (whatever that means) you may want to consider what made you okay with saying that

also, in keeping with Vance’s view of american identity, only white people are fully American with the right to critique or dissent. nonwhites must show proper gratitude (supporting Trump or marrying JD Vance) before they can speak critically of the country (in approved ways, of course)

Weaponized gratitude is a key tool in the abuser's toolkit. The goal is to convince the victim that they owe the abuser so much, they should feel guilty for wanting to complain.

Joy Reid has had such a good life in this country. It's been
overwhelmingly kind and gracious to her. She is far wealthier than most.
Yet she oozes with contempt.
My honest, non-trolling advice to Joy Reid is that you'd be a much
happier person if you showed a little gratitude

One of the things I always find telling is the idea that we have to judge past people by the standards of their time, as if the fact that they did bad things means that everyone thought it was okay. They didn't. Pretty much every obviously evil act had people saying that it was, in fact, bad.
