What an embarrassing stunt by the NWP members of #NewWest Council today. These are not serious people. Afraid to tell the community what they would cut (except a couple of small items that have no real impact on our taxes) but talking out of both sides of their mouths while demanding tax cuts.

Have to admit, seeing faceless Facebook politicos posting character attacks against me while using the great photo Mario Bartel took of me for a story about me winning *Citizen of the Year* puts things in perspective.

I heard great things about this North Van coffee shop, so I went to visit a friend today to grab coffee and was delighted to see the way it was set up with the Mind Flayer on the roof, thinking it was a permanent fixture only to find out it was just a part of their Halloween decorations still up.

Global News laid off 26 journalists in B.C. and Alberta today.

In B.C. the layoffs include virtually all of the online team, along with many others.

The business is increasingly cruel, and the hollowing out of newsrooms providing fair and reliable information continues to suck.

It's incredible I somehow made it 10 years in the news biz without being laid off but my luck ran out today. Sad to see a quality team torn apart. Spare a thought for your local journos who are ever being asked to do more with less, especially if you're tempted to dunk on the MSM.

There are folks who like to take "sides" in local media, cheering for or against organizations or journalists like they're heroes or villains in the ongoing struggle for truth.

But in B.C., it's more like an ecosystem. There are places you might like less or more, but they all contribute.
Global is a really important part of BC’s news ecosystem

If we look to history, or to global contemporary movements, there is one constant: the only way to stop tyranny is through workers walking off the job.

And yet, the lack of union density in the US has primed it for a fascist take-over.
