My piece is called "Blessed Be Her Children." Cass is a single mother who finds hope and connection in a women’s group tied to an enigmatic congregation. The deeper she's drawn into its embrace, the more of herself slips away until the congregation’s hidden truths threaten to consume her completely.

Bans on books, media, and news are all connected.

Let’s keep fighting censorship of all kinds. Support independent booksellers, media, publishers, and businesses working to share essential stories. And support the authors and journalists telling these essential stories.

This may explain why there’s an aggressive response to people who merely post Kirk’s own words. It threatens the existence of the alternate Kirk - the motivational speaker that had been marketed to young kids and white Christian groups through selective quotation & clips.

Shout out to everyone only now learning that "Albert Einstein was reclusive at the end of his career, shunning public engagements."

Really meant,

"For the last *20 years* of his career, Einstein opposed US racism by only speaking publicly at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

I love that this book also includes stories of how people have effectively organized against private equity. Extremely inspiring.
I'm currently reading Bad Company: Private Equity and the Death of the American Dream, and it's convincing me (even more) that, if all private equity ghouls' heads simultaneously exploded Scanners-style, our world would be a much better place.

"Because your father’s hands, calloused & whiskey-stung, once cradled a fledgling sparrow back to its wings... Because the dog with three legs still chases pigeons. Because the last page of the book you’re reading is a door. Because the coffee is bitter & the bread is warm..."
