The University of Nebraska is closing their statistics department. Especially if you're all in on AI this is so short-sighted. It's like launching the first spacecraft into outer space and being like "welp time to close astrophysics and rocketry and only teach classes on buckling up your seat belts"

Hochul is a mixed bag for me, and this is probably a small step, but happy that the Film/TV industry has been a priority for our state gov.

“What I see as a labor economist is we have starved everything to feed one mouth,” says Ron Hetrick, Principal Economist at Lightcast. “These are now three years that we have foregone development in so many industries as we shove food into a mouth that’s already so full.”
Silicon Valley has placed a trillion-dollar bet that gen AI can transform the global economy and pave the way for AGI. But warning signs show the marketing hype has vastly overrated what current AI tech can achieve, creating a bubble with growing costs when it pops, writes @jeremyhsu.bsky.social.
When it all comes crashing down: The aftermath of the AI boom
AI has buoyed the stock market and a struggling US economy but warning signs indicate a bubble that everyone will pay for when it bursts.

We are now up to three total shitshow senate primaries (Texas, Michigan, and Maine).

Kirsten Gillibrand is the head of the DSCC and her literal job is to prevent this. but instead, she’s been spending her time criticizing Zohran. She needs to go, both as DSCC head and from the senate entirely imo
! Colin Allred is ENDING his Senate campaign and instead running for the House in Texas' redrawn 33rd congressional district.

California and New York should team up and buy Warner Bros, and then give residents 1 free movie a week.

During the Hollywood strikes in 2023, I helped organize a fundraiser for out of work crew, and after inviting a slew of local politicians, Zohran was the only one who showed up, and talked with all of us about the labor issues we and our industry were facing. Had my vote forever after that!
My Zohran story is I was gonna host a fundraising party at my house for his Assembly campaign on March 20, 2020, which obvs didn't happen, so on April 3 I hosted a virtual fundraiser and 4 people showed up and he stayed on Zoom the whole time hanging and answering questions and being a sweetie
