Not only a perfect denouement, it was the end of an era. Thirty years ago today, this strip was published.

As we enter the New Year remember fear of making bad art is holding you back. Fear of people not liking your work is holding you back. Rejection is holding you back

You'll make bad art, you'll have people not like your work, and you'll be rejected. Moving past it is half the job of being a creative

There's been a lot of talk on here today about networking in books and in comics, and let me just say...

We've really got to stop thinking of it as networking.

If all you're looking for is business connections, you aren't going to do that well with it.

At least in my opinion.

SO, you want to network but don't know where to begin.

1. DON'T. Make friends instead
2. It's not about what they can do for you
3. Famous people are just people first
4. If you do have to gush, don't just say 'i love your work' , pick one thing and say why. Open ended compliments are awkward

This.
Be a decent sociable person, first and foremost.

Don't look at interactions as transactional contests you use for career gain and status.
Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

Looking at lots of the “how do I break in” discourse going on and let me just say that the making friends part is (and remains) key.

The difference between colleagues and friends becomes exceedingly visible once one leaves/steps back/is no longer actively working at the creative thing. 1/

In the grand scheme of a creative career of any kind, the whole “being a decent human” part and the “do the work” part are more important than all the talent/skill in the world. Those are the things that lead to not only career longevity, but a decent shot at yanno, possibly feeling some happiness.

If you use Microsoft 365 they are asking for feedback about copilot right now.

It's a great opportunity to tell them it's trash and it sucks!

I'm sure it will be used for targeted marketing to address concerns about how it's trash and it sucks, but you can still complain.

It’s a good thing! Social media can just be a lil room of your larger social network you peek in on at the frequency you want!!

Jack Fox just had a 70-yard punt to Minnesota's 1-yard line. At least there is that. Good lord, man.

Hohoho! I drew this year's holiday card for my art rep, Felix Comic Art. I wanted the recipients to get something that looked like a piece of vintage original art, but also couldn't help poking some fun at Felix's love for Dark Knight Returns.

Really bad time for Jared Goff to throw two straight INTs. Harrison Smith made a great play but that's still not a good throw/choice
