If you would put together a kind of 2026 calendar for #ttrpg designers, what moments of the year stand out to you? #ZineMonth? #rpgenesis? The ongoing kickstarter for #ApocalypseWorld?

This is accurate, but also feels backwards, which is a little bit odd to say.

There are a LOT of complicated factors Involved in this, but one of the weirdest and most disruptive is a sense that RPGs are an unwelcome activity, *even while doing them*.
The "traditional" structure of TTRPGs puts an enormous amount of pressure on the GM to learn/refine & very little on the players.

Which is somehow seen as more reasonable than spreading the load of learning/contribution across the whole table.

Broader implications about community in there, y'all.

follow the page for The Endtimes Trilogy if you like weird storygames, GMless games, games with a GMPC who's a total jerk, games with playing cards, games with tarot cards, games with dice, games inspired by Krasznahorkai books, games inspired by 10 cloverfield lane, anthology trilogies, zines, etc
The Endtimes Trilogy is coming to #zinetopia & #zinemonth in February! Follow the page now!

I'm bringing three interesting new tabletop rpgs about the end of the world. They play great standalone, or pair nicely as a three part apocalyptic anthology.

Year I first designed an RPG: ~1995.
Year I first discovered indie RPGs: 2002.
Year I first did a game jam: also 2002 (Game Chef 1).
Year I first sold something at GenCon: 2006.
Year I first made a significant profit: 2025.

You never have to stop making games, even if it never becomes your day job.

I saw a chart about commitment to AI, and unsurprisingly the US was far in the lead, and it really drove home an key emotion driving the grift.

The *idea* of the U.S. as number one is so powerful that we have effectively made up a category we can be number one in, and it MUST BE TRUE.

For this book, I wrote an essay about "How to GM Romance" when you're asexual - because I'm asexual and find it frustrating to live in a world where sex and romance are an assumed and “necessary” part of any meaningful relationship.

I'm SO happy you can all read this now. 🫶

You're into RPGs.

You've maybe played one this year, or ten, or... sixty-two?

What if you told us about them?

Like, in a blog post, or on here. Tell us what you played, maybe for how long. You could say if you liked them and why. You could even hand out awards.

Welcome to The #Endies2025.

Finally, someone acknowledges BPG's *unhinged* back catalog!

In all seriousness, it's a very good review of Desperation, and I hope it means more people will check out the game. I helped make the Roll20 version and I'm very proud of it!
"I adore #Desperation. It's proof, as if it was needed, that designer @jmstar.bsky.social is an absolute legend, a titan of the tabletop scene. And together with the rest of the team at publishers Bully Pulpit, they've put together like, a gothic narrative train set." - @itsquinns.bsky.social

Despite not being at PAX U, im experiencing the reinvigoration of those who did attend and remembering the power of human connection. We're a scattered community with the majority of our discussion taking place online, but theres literally nothing like interpersonal communication with another nerd.

not dire, but i'm raising some money to cover expenses this month (plus i love doing these) so: trueform portraits! $200 gets you an ophan, seraph, or weird mech according to your aesthetics (+$50 will get you a little human portrait to go along with it!) no design too complex! [email protected]

I make things because I can be honest and nuanced and messy through the things I make. It’s for my own self expression and sometimes if I’m lucky, it’s to feel seen and to connect with the audience.

And other times, I also make things for money and recognition when it’s necessary.

Ok, so up front, this is a response to another post, but it's not intended as a sub-skeet. The original poster has disabled quote posting, and I am interpreting that as (very reasonably) looking to avoid internet drama and I want to respect that.
