Clayton on awards has been great this week. I love his case for why we should care about awards even if we don't like them, I love imagining the awards show he might make, and I also don't want to think about how much work it must take to put on any awards show, much less a good or even okay one.

The first rpg book I bought on the left, the latest one on the right.

What were the first and last roleplaying games you had?
A battered copy of the Dungeons & Dragons Rules Cyclopedia. A fresh copy of the zine 'Milk Bar: Cut Your (Milk) Teeth Edition'

I'm sitting here wondering if I ever owned a 3.5 Player's Handbook... Last thing I bought was a card-based LARP, which does reflect how my journey is going.

Waiting for the cinemas to respond by bringing Sátántangó back to the big screen. Maybe even two screenings a day, if they can squeeze the extra one in.

László Krasznahorkai won the Nobel? Me and my fellow Krasznahorguys are feasting.

I'm not saying everything is gonna be okay, but Walter Chaw gave del Toro's Frankenstein 4/4 stars so that's something.

playing my zombie potato mausritter dungeon again tonight 🫶
A title card reading: 'The Blighted Sack'. It's designed to look like white stenciled letters on dubiously stained burlap.

It's almost noon here but I kept the curtains closed while playing silksong

Here's your daily dose of weirdness for today!
Altered Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

First panel. Calvin's dad says, "what story would you like to read tonight? Anything except..."

Calvin: "The Voynich Manuscript?"

Second panel. Calvin's dad, exasperated: "No! No Voynich Manuscript tonight!"

Calvin: "I want the Voynich Manuscript !"

Third panel. Calvin's sad: "Look, you know how the story goes! You've memorized the whole thing! It's completely unreadable!"

Calvin: "I want mysterious glyphs and symbols!"

Fourth panel. Calvin: "Wow! The story was different thatvtime!"

Hobbes: indecipherable squiggles

My tabletop fantasy dyad, Crescent and Exile, is now available for preorder at the Mythworks store. 🖤 www.myth.works/pages/cresce...

All orders (along with crowdfunding rewards) will be shipping in November. Stay tuned. 🌜💫⚔️
Two hardcover books. Left book reads "CRESCENT 2E: Feelings-Delving Role-Playing" and depicts five children running away from a dinosaur. The mood in the picture is light-hearted, playful, and fantastic. The right book reads "EXILE: Dark Fantasy Role-Playing" and depicts a winged figure thrusting a blood-soaked blade out of a horned monster. The mood is mysterious, emotional, and fierce.

When I posted this many folks said this likely isn't an injury, it's just something they do to stay warm, and OMG today over 100 sanderlings flew in right next to me and almost all of them were hopping on one foot. See thread for more 😭🪶

Feels good to do game design again

Wasn't even the Choral Chambers, even though it had Choral Chambers enemies and a literal choral soundtrack!
napel.itch.io
I don't think saying there's a gauntlet in the Choral Chambers is a spoiler because they're fucking everywhere
napel.itch.io
My partner, who is much more tenacious than I am, is doing a murderous gauntlet in the Choral Chambers that looks suspiciously like it'll be my breaking point

The brilliant new twinned game project by illustrator/designer Em Acosta.

Crescent is about kids who go to the dream world. Then Exile is about them as teenagers in the nightmare world. So rad lol

an interesting challenge i sometimes run up against is the tension between the anti-canon quality of RPG as game-objects and the benefits of a single consistent visual style / canonical set of appearances in a game-book

Do you like fun simple games that are deceptively deep art, luring you to the brink of losing yourself in the listless void before summoning you home with the sticky smells of dried Coke and fry oil?

Me too!
The ttrpg book Tourist Hole in hand. The author on the cover seems to be labeled “Escape,” which is a little weird. The printed edition of Tourist Hole opened to its introductory page, where a family of toy figures strolls under the shadow of a hanging skeleton.

The Japanese Mario 64 official strategy guide is an incredible thing. "Can we make little hand-made dioramas of all the levels?" "Sure, why the hell not."
A model of the first level from Mario 64. A model of a snowy level from Mario 64.

I'm biased. I played these games during the playtest and I had an amazing time. Ema Acosta tinkered until only the smoothest running role-playing machine remained, a blend of osr freedom and storygame richness. A real vision.

So, my advice? Pre-order them right now: www.myth.works/pages/cresce...
A digital mock up of Crescent 2e. The cover has been done in a cartoonish, painterly style: centered around a large T-rex is a cast of pre-teens involved in various anticts. One has caught the other with a fishing pole. There's a boomerang flying around. Another is diving into the water, their feet turned into a fish's tail. And while the dinosaur roars, another child is deeply immersed in the ancient tome they're reading at the monster's feet. A digital mock up of EXILE. The cover has been done in a dark, high contrast, painterly style: an older teen, their eyes glowing red, stands atop the head of a dragon, sprouting their own bat-like wings, holding a sword dripping with blood and charging magical energy with their other hand.
