A while back there was a conversation floating around rpgs about where's the new innovation in games, like where's the new pbta. I've decided it's "Apollo 47-core": 1 page of rules + 100 pages of modular lore (see: Mythic Bastionland, Wanderhome, even Under Hollow Hills).

i was instantly like "streets of fire" and then was overjoyed to see it was right there in the thread

so my unironic choice is to get Shinichirō Watanabe to make Wild Wild West, on the principle that the best remakes save a bad thing with potential instead of a good thing already done well

I'm always floored when I hear someone has enjoyed SPINE. And I'm equally floored to see their annotations.

My favorite here is "Holy crap! He's a real dude!"
I just finished a playthrough of Siderius Plug’s SPINE by @backwardsttrpg.bsky.social

I’ve tried other solo rpg and journal games in the past, but none have kept my attention the way that SPINE has.

It’s the kind of thing I want to send my copy to my fellow video essayists to see how they react.

update from the Low Cantref: i had forgotten how tedious and satisfying it is working on layout.

basic moves are neatly arrayed, including a new turn to folklore draft. playbooks are shaping up (they need a second layout draft) including a new version of the book's core move. playtest here i come!

re. the shifting location of the avant-garde: in the 1970s it was relatively cheap to put a bunch of stuff in a room and relatively expensive to disseminate a text very widely. it is now precisely the other way around

Incredibly shocked and saddened to learn of Steve Dee’s passing. His passion for making games and sharing the craft of gamemaking was unmatched. He made a whole bunch of great games (It Is Forbidden is stellar), and in his memory I want to share my favourite:
