Do you ever grow up on a remote British island where life is golden—land & sea are bountiful, the community strong. But omens start happening—mice devour each other, trees bleed, rabbits hunt foxes—and your parents finally tell you that the island hungers and only death can pay for life.

Anyone????

Girl Frame Releases October 21st over on anxiousmimicrpgs.itch.io. If you like Mechsploitation, Evangelion, 86, or just mechs+oppressed lesbians+eldritch horrors in general, I think you'll like this. #mechsploitation #ttrpg

Here's one of my favourite playbooks:
MOCKINGBIRD
You fell to the Gorgons, becoming a Harpy - a corrupted girl. The Foundation took you back, ripped you out of voidspace with a cold hand, deprogrammed and reprogrammed you back into working order. Purging what the Gorgons put in your head and body with scalpels and chemicals.
You were a human, and you tasted what it was to be a dream. Now you’re less than either.

2013: THE UNDERSTATE (Apocalypse World): PBTA module. In a tight 3-hour con slot. I was a fucked up Brainer with a Hardholder brother. My first real taste of how system provokes, how it delights, how it sings, how it *matters*. I wouldn't be here (designing in public) without it.

2011: WILLOWBARK (VtMish) Starving ghouls investigate their masters' death. Bottles full of 'blood' - gamble some when you take action, or spend it to do disciplines
2011: EVERY BODY ELSE (capsule) Messy friend group. Folks ready to spill their guts. Zombie outbreak. A secret bite. Intense catharsis

For tons of folks, there was that -one- game that blew the doors open and showed what #TTRPGs could be. The one that started the #IndieGame rabbit hole.

What was YOUR "gateway" indie #TTRPG? The first one that made you realize a whole other world was out there?

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

these thoughts have been rattling around in my brain for about a year and i finally had some time to scribble them down. some thoughts on how games might emulate the act of 'doing' history

Historical interpretation as non-linear narrative
How games can reflect history as a discipline, not just historical facts.

If you enjoyed a game on Itch, leave a comment!

Honestly, it really brightens a creator's day. And it's a big encouragement for others who may be interested in getting that game.

Itch hides reviews from the game page, so I find comments more useful in the long run.

Like a game? Comment away!

I love this picture of Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima because it looks like they’re expecting.
Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima standing in front of a recreation of the Frankenstein set. Based on the way del Toro is embracing Kojima, the latter appears to be pregnant.

CHOTINER: Some people say your unorthodox medical practice can be harmful.

ME: You're talking about--

CHOTINER: Pagliacci.

ME: I think, sometimes there's a reflex to reach for meds when what we really need is to laugh.

CHOTINER: Of course.

ME: If I had known, obviously.

CHOTINER: Obviously.

i reference Dream Askew / Dream Apart SO frequently when editing, giving design feedback, etc. & it's such a shame how few have played it relative to other indie games. it's such a groundbreaking set of systems & is upstream of basically every narrative TTRPG since it released. you GOTTA know it.

Anyway spent downtime yesterday and today scanning through the playbooks for HARVEST (by Luke Jordan) and I'm very fond of a game where if you bind yourself too closely to an ancient power, it removes its blessings until you grapple with your own mortality. And then lets you turn people to dust.

#RPGaDay2025 Day 19 - Destiny. Across Harvest's 3 acts, players will explore the island’s buried secrets, succumb to community pressure & private desperation, & turn against one another.

Because this much is certain: One of you must die. And another must wield the knife. The only question is – who?
Cover of Harvest by Luke Jordan. A femme presenting person in a long cloak looking over their shoulder at the viewer. Behind them, the rest of the island is shown with a small village settlement to the left and a church on a hill to the right.
