Equity Arc, which trains young musicians of color, was set to play with the US Marine Band — until Trump's anti-DEI order canceled the show.

But Chicago stepped up, and now the students will perform at @chicagosymphony.bsky.social on 4/6. Grab a free ticket and join me in cheering them on. cso.org

Some GOP fuckery is going on in the NC Supreme Court race.

A Democrat won the '24 election, so the GOP keeps challenging results, despite the recounts repeatedly showing the same margins. Now, the case could go to the NC Supreme Court, which has a 5-2 GOP majority.

This is NOT Mark Hamill

The account has been marked as ✨impersonation✨ by the Bluesky team as you can see below.

This is his handle if you'd like to unfollow. Big accounts like this can flip to promote anything they want now that they've stolen attention & clout.

Democrats will often look at something that doesn’t poll well and think “oh no, better move away from that!” but they’re getting their role backwards. parties influence public opinion. if you’re purely reactive, you’re just letting the GOP frame every debate.
the lesson of the election isn’t “we should give up on trans rights,” it’s that the GOP took an issue that negatively impacted almost no one and made it a headliner. why would it help to surrender on an issue if they can create a grievance from thin air?

great thread and this has been one of my obsessions in my column, to point people away from the european example and toward the american one.
One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents.

Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.

if you count Elon Musk buying Twitter as a political contribution, which it 100 percent was, then 2024 was by far the most expensive election in American history

This is one of the best examples yet that Bluesky is developing that old Twitter serendipity: during a discussion of Winnie-the-Pooh's inspiration — a real-life Canadian-British bear named WINNIPEG — here's someone who has photos of their grandmother and great-grandmother with Winnie herself!
Can't find the enhanced images but here are 4 original scans from my g-grandmother's scrap books: My great grandmother with the bear, my grandmother's brother (double exposure) w/bear, my grandmother and her brother w/bear, Harry Colebourn, who bought the bear in Winnipeg, at Valcartier Camp w/bear.

i think my position on this is that if it happens, it's unconstitutional. if the supreme court affirms it, it's still unconstitutional. it's an illegitimate and unlawful action and should be treated as such.
Apparently Trump just announced he is unilaterally ending birthright citizenship.

I would have ridiculed it as preposterous a few years ago.

Now? Well, watch the Federalist Society start holding seminars on why he’s right, and I am not confident this Supreme Court will disagree.

the GOP primaries are pretty much going to be more predictable than we could have ever even expected, I guess.
