underrated cause of democratic backsliding is surely the gross deference courts have given the state and especially police for decades and decades

Very different behavior when they don’t have a gun.
ICE agents tried to quietly get Mexican food in Minneapolis, local neighbors and protesters found out and shamed then out of the neighborhood!

Chuck Schumer is a disaster for the party. Everyone knows he’s a disaster for the party. He’s unpopular with the Dem base. If Dem Senators wanted to push him out of leadership, they could. But they don’t want to because it’s a country club, not a party that has the goal of achieving policy outcomes.

I want everyone who has spent years in therapy wondering what is wrong with them, wondering why they had so many bad relationships, why they felt so much dread, to know that it was in part because you were living in a world run by evil, evil people and you could tell that somewhere deep down

As a side note, it’s funny to see so many of these emails with thirsty academics repeatedly enact Marx’s bit in the 1844 Manuscripts about the power of money. “Oh Mr Epstein, your house in New York is enormous and, unrelatedly, your questions at dinner were so intelligent, so insightful, so deep.”

Walz comparing the ICE raids to the Holocaust makes him going on that podcast and saying he hopes Tom Homan works with local law enforcement and does night raids so much more fucking horrifying, he's describing his desire for a quiet and orderly night Holocaust

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

Something I've been trying to impart on people is that the ICE occupation in Minnesota is both an ethnic cleansing and an ideological terror campaign. It's clear that the second part has utterly failed; the community is not terrified. But ICE is now desperately trying to salvage the first part.

Such a hilarious party. Not sure what more can be said about an establishment that watches its base come out and get killed to stand against an agency and administration, and their ultimate plan is more of the same but with body cams.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

As Trump scrambles to contain the damage from the latest ICE horrors, Senator Chris Murphy offers a sharp indictment of Trump-ICE lawlessness—and explains how Dems can meet the urgency of the moment.

I will go further and say that people using the "r"-word are hoping that bringing it back opens the door to bringing back the "n"-word, and is strongly correlated with the people who want to carve off trans rights as a stepping stone to claw back gay rights in general
I assume anyone who says this word is probably okay with the n-word, too. Or, more charitably, doesn’t understand why they shouldn’t say it just that saying it would get them in a lot of trouble.

Almost every reason people have for defunding or abolishing ICE is also a reason to defund or abolish the police, yet many people who are rightly calling for action against ICE would never come close to doing to the same for police. But this fight goes beyond just ICE. ICE represents a larger issue.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
