An annoying thing if you're a fish is getting a hook stuck in your mouth.

If estrangement is growing, maybe don't blame the children and ask about the parenting.
But either way, 'no contact' is a perfectly cromulent strategy when dealing with people who have a lot of psychological power over you, but don't treat you well.
Found family is fine.
Stop guilting people about being estranged from family members. It someone is they likely have personal reasons for being so.
