The voting base doesn't care about Clinton that much, but many donors, consultants, and people in positions of power care quite a bit about him.

So in the UK, they'll arrest you for supporting Palestine, and now we find they'll also arrest you for supporting those who support Palestine.

If you hold a Free Greta sign, will they arrest you for supporting someone who supports those who support Palestine?

British Matryoshka doll-ass fascism.
Greta Thunberg has been arrested on terrorism charges for speaking out in support of the Palestine Action hunger strikers.

FUCK this British government.

Since the Internet Archive has popped back into relevance tonight, just an FYI: It's one of a handful of tech nonprofits that have low-key become super important *in general* over the years, and perhaps especially this year.
I feel like there’s a story to be done on the under-recognized importance of tech nonprofits to modern journalism.

E.g.:

• Signal
• RECAP/Courtlistener
• Internet Archive/Wayback Machine
• Wikipedia/Wikimedia

See also: nonprofit outlets like AP, ProPublica, and RNS, obvi.

One of those comics where a pre-transition trans woman is staring longingly into a mirror showing a more feminine version of herself, but the trans woman is me and the reflection is just me holding a pizza.

The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

A fascinating conversation I got to overhear was between an astronomer and a librarian for the same university, who met at a dinner I was invited to. They were commiserating over the astro dept admin’s decision, without faculty input, to discard all the books in the observatory. 1/2

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

4a. Just want to emphasize this: You cannot say that you're just anti-Zionist and not antisemitic, and then go spread hate about the Talmud.

That's basically the same as saying "I'm not racist, I just think we need to defend the white race against [insert racist slurs here]"
4. Anyone who tries to suggest that the Talmud is what Zionists or Israelis believe in is trying to trick you into accepting lies about the Talmud. They want you to think "Well, the Zionists are bad, so the Talmud must also be bad."

The Talmud is a *Jewish* text, not an Israeli one.

A cozy detective story ❤️
I do think this is true. I'm often guilty myself of underplaying what the work I do looks like or how much time and effort it takes. Research isn't 'just reading' or a question of sucking up summaries others have created. It's knowledge creation.

So let me go through the process with an example 1/
What historians (and other scholars do) is create knowledge. We should use that phrase more and talk about what it means. I think we don't, and it's part of why AI enthusiasts are confused when we don't readily agree that our work can be replicated/replaced by their products.
