Some people are so avowedly anti-vax that no outbreak, no matter how deadly, will move them. But there's also a not insignificant number of anti-vaxxers who will be moved by the the inevitable outcome of their behavior. The frustrating part is there's no mechanism for accountability.

One of the best-sketched characters in an incredibly character-rich show: a fascist whose (potentially real!) redeeming qualities are continually undercut by his monumental pride, bigotry, entitlement and pettiness
The most realistic scene in DS9 is when Gul Dukat whined about how the Bajorans never erected a statue in his honor. A prophetic text.

Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."

It also makes a great holiday gift for the person in your life who thinks "what if this entire forsaken world was totally different, and also yet somehow simply an increased space for the blessed life that already exists, only freer and less condemned to the hell of self-regard"
Hi, new followers! I wrote a book back in 2018 about Jewish anarcho-theocracy. You might like it if you are interested in the idea of God’s direct rule without a human intermediary, as devised in Weimar Germany and with application to colonial Palestine. Also if you only know Buber from “I and Thou”

The only people Pete Hegseth wants to collect a government check while playing video games are murderous drone operators.
This is a lot of words to say, “Yikes! That Washington Post story about us illegally killing survivors on the open seas was 100% correct!”

Now that I've refamiliarized myself w the books, I'm reminded of how many changes Peter Jackson made when making the films. A lot of them make sense, I can quibble with more than one, but these movies are still perfect. And Jackson so clearly respects the stories and world.

My house was ding-dong-ditched this morning at 4am. That's just poor form. 10pm-12am is appropriate, even a bit funny on occasion. 4am is just mean. On a weeknight, no less.

First night in DC and I see this rat chowing down on a massive pile of vomit. Feels like there's a metaphor here for how senate Dems look while trying to sell the vote they're going to get on ACA subsidies as a win of some kind.

Pretty incredible that trump can just tear down part of the WH and it won't even register in conservative media. If Obama did this, the conservative conspiracies would have been wild. Secret mosque. Secret tunnels for blood rituals. Hannity would have made it a defining story of his presidency.
