CHOTINER: and when you're in water you

PARTICLE MAN: don't get wet, that's right.

CHOTINER: And this is because

PARTICLE MAN: the water gets me instead. It becomes particle-manish

CHOTINER: There's been some debate on this point. Triangle Man, for example

PARTICLE MAN: I think we're done here

One thing people in the music industry don’t talk about enough is guitarists getting athlete’s foot from using each other’s guitar pedals.

Relatedly, I was *shocked* yesterday when other Jewish adults hadn’t thought about how latkes predated the arrival of potatoes in Europe.

Tough call. Probably either Sideways Stories from Wayside School or Howl and Other Poems.
omg. Kat Abughazaleh just posted that if she's elected, she'll swear in on a copy of Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower.

If you were elected to public office (never mind whether you'd ever actually run), what book would you swear in on?

The platform that my bros and I use for the group chat sent a year-end summary to me.

I spend a lot of time yakking with those idiots, and I really love them.

To celebrate, I corrected everyone's apostrophe use on abbreviated decades (e.g., '90s instead of 90's).

Spotify Wrapped is a way to provide legal evidence that you are in fact a music listener. If you don’t (or can’t) supply this widely recognized documentation, how is anyone to trust that you aren’t simply pretending to enjoy music as part of a malicious con job?

Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Treatment for trans kids cannot wait for adulthood. Adolescent changes in the body are permanent and irreversible. The pain of dysmorphia kills. No medical professional treats kids casually, no family seeks treatment casually. Treatment is safe, effective and is a conservative course of action.

Does anybody have a link to the transit system budget? Curious to know how much the University of Iowa is paying in, since that seems to be key in places like this.
“There were early concerns that fare-free travel would heap extra burdens on bus drivers, drawing homeless people or anything-goes behavior. Yet several drivers said that not having to ask passengers for payment or transfers has led to less friction with riders.”

Community showed up strong in Columbia, MO, last night to oppose a "pedestrian safety" ordinance that was mostly aimed at kicking panhandlers off of medians at busy intersections. The vote is tabled, so it's not over, but you do love to see it.

The Trump administration wants to do two unbelievably dumb things that would collectively devastate mass transit in America — and be *epically bad for drivers, too,* especially in red states. Broke down the (many) problems with nuking the mass transit account and taking away flex funding.

And I still get weird middle-aged men in my notifications obfuscating for and defending this.

This is not a serious society.

If you have to get permission to teach in your area of expertise from people who are definitionally not qualified to adjudicate your expertise then you are no longer working at a university.

You’re working at a state propaganda factory.
