Dorks, it’s time to throw sand in the gears.

They want us to stop teaching, we will teach in the streets.

They want us to stop our research, we will use archival data.

They want to send us back to the dark ages, we will be a light.

We will not lay down and take this.

Exclusive: National Science Foundation staff were told today that the agency’s 37 divisions—across all eight directorates—are being abolished and the number of programs within those divisions will be drastically reduced.

Interested in waterfalls? My former PhD student, Sophie Rothman, (with support from NSF) made a fun outreach video about how waterfalls erode, check it out and please share widely:

🌎 From tracking extreme weather to protecting fisheries and coastlines, #NOAA’s work saves lives and supports economies.

AGU opposes the dismantling of NOAA and calls on Congress to defend this critical agency.

The future of climate science, public safety, and industry depends on it.

AGU has joined a lawsuit challenging the firing of probationary employees at federal agencies.

These actions weaken science, harm public health & the environment, and threaten national security. 🧵 #StandWithScience

I designed some 3D printed components to make a very inexpensive version of the @earthscope.org Earthquake Machine that hold a phone. It also allows for multiple variables such as elasticity (size of bands), surface roughness (grits of sandpaper) and mass (hollow brick to add weights).

I spoke with a hurricane modeler who was just fired from the branch of NOAA that keeps weather models running. He got a form letter like hundreds of others telling him he was losing his job in an hour. This bodes very poorly for American forecasting. Gift link: www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell.

This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Variability of flowing stream network length across the US
The aggregate length of flowing streams in a drainage network lengthens and shortens as landscapes become wetter and drier. However, direct measurements of stream network variability have been limited...
