It will be interesting to see how many people can identify the post- WW2 foreign policy mistakes. Do they even frame them as such, in school or college classes ?
to anyone wondering whether the decision to come out in favor of this or condemn it will look worse, historically speaking, may I refer you to *gestures to the entire history of american foreign policy and also the track record of the goons in office*

He’s not even firm about the distraction bit : “ makes you think that maybe” 🤷🏽‍♂️
look at some point you gotta face the fact that not everything is a distraction from everything else and there’s just a lot of bad stuff going on all the time
Schumer: "It makes you think that maybe to Trump he wants to distract the American people, as he always does, from the skyrocketing costs they are facing, from the Epstein files."

Gas guzzling SUVs are their profit makers- nothing else matters
Was genuinely surprised to see the auto CEO buy-in yesterday, absolute failing by media if none of them gets asked about why they sat through the racist rant.

Attn. Grad students: There really needs to be an online searchable database of Trump’s and his team’s daily activities- there are so many outrageous actions and statements, impacting institutions and people, that a meta-analysis will not do justice

It is the job of the Democratic party to sell and defend the policies that most Democratic voters want, not to present a candidate slate that is palatable to moderate Republicans who might switch if they hate their own candidate enough.

As evidenced by their news channels and social media
They will never give up on finding things to be upset about no matter how much power and control they have because contentedness is impossible for them and goes against everything they believe in. And their leaders will always be manufacturing new outrages because it’s how they keep their power.

“Washington insiders remain mystified by how a conspiracy theorist with such extreme views could have acquired such clout”- this was about Laura Loomer but could apply to other recent events. Frankly, the “mystifying” aspect is more a reflection on DC insiders than on Trump,

Time and resources that could have been spent on productive work, now being used to double-check AI results
more evidence for “a bunch of AI cultists dismantled large parts of the federal government because they believed that their LLMs were intelligent and could do the work better” thesis
Reporter: The FDA has a new AI tool that's intended to speed up drug approvals. But several FDA employees say the new AI helper is making up studies that do not exist. One FDA employee telling us, 'Anything that you don't have time to double check is unreliable. It hallucinates confidently'

Judging by their behavior, more “genuine” Christians than in many parts of this country
I am also fond of explaining that India has more Christians than Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Denmark put together.

When Dems are back in power they need to make critical thinking a mandatory school subject

They couldn’t take down Jason Bourne, or Ethan Hunt. However, the Black (lady) agent in The Day of the Jackal was effective : Art imitates Life
okay but the thing about the CIA is that the mythology of the agency belies the reality, which is that for much of its existence it was a rubber room for WASP failsons and their operations reflect this
Me looking at the CIA like:

We have an Emperor who does 👍.
Next it will be bread and circuses ( immigrant gladiators?)
As Republicans have gone MAGA, college educated voters have broken away from the Republican Party.

Rather than moderate, the party has decided to destroy higher education in America. Seems bad!

and here we thought the dignity of the office couldn’t get lower than asking another country for their used 747
i think it should be a bigger story that the president held a meeting with a foreign head of state where he ranted about the most gutter white supremacist propaganda you can find on the internet

It's essential that Democrats find a decent candidate to run against Susan Collins. The future of the American judiciary and much of American public policy depends on Democrats performing well in Senate elections, which unavoidably starts with beating here. This should be a bigger political story.

“wealth and prosperity one does not have to work hard for”
my "trump is a literal totem representing wealth and prosperity" theory keeps winning
this is worth digging into. very nuanced analysis but my general takeaway is that Trump has a near mystical attraction for low-info, low-propensity voters catalist.us/whathappened...

In a democracy, the agents of the state should not be able to conceal their identity. The entire purpose of these actions is to escape accountability.
Federal agents' seemingly universal adoption of neck gaiters worn just below the eyes like they're robbing the railroad is emblematic of this time in the US

Startups burning through cash ,without making anything useful, are somehow not an inefficient use of resources
what is fascinating to me is the number of people whose “knowledge” of government appears to just be an accumulation of cliches and stereotypes + an inchoate sense that if something is big and costly then it must necessarily be “wasteful”
Interesting piece which reveals a lot of the tech bro ignorance of government: DOGEr comes in, expects to find lots of inefficiency, is at least willing to acknowledge he was wrong unlike the hard core ideologues.

Big cars with large touchscreens and overly bright lights are what passes for technical innovation here
The US and Chinese auto markets have almost completely diverged. In the US, we get expensive, bloated SUVs running on gasoline. In China, they get affordable, high-quality, high-tech, reasonably sized EVs.

Love that American exceptionalism.
What a $15,000 Electric SUV Says About U.S.-China Car Rivalry
For an American used to a $50,000 gasoline-powered SUV as the standard family choice, the Chinese market is hardly recognizable.

The President who put an end to “ move ahead”
my endorsement for any democratic presidential candidate who promises to send the entire DOGE team to prison
This is insane and everyone involved needs to be sued into oblivion and then go directly to jail

As anyone who has been through the immigration process, since DHS was formed, can attest to.
there really is no alternative to tearing up CBP and ICE root and branch
A US citizen with a learning disability who has just suffered a medical emergency asks a CBP officer for directions outside the emergency room. He ends up detained in an icebox for ten days and has the assistant secretary of DHS lying about him to the public at large. popular.info/p/us-citizen...
